Hello Saint Margaret Mary School families,

As we enter the first week of October, I can now look back at September and say <whew!< What a busy month it was!! We had everything from Star testing, Family Night, School Fair, fundraising kick off, school pictures, Book Fair, earthquake drill to Back to School Night all in one month!!!! A huge thank you goes out to all those involved for making each and every event fantastic!

8th grade Class of 2017 – thank you for all your hard work in cleaning up the school grounds the day after the Fair. Thank you Mr. Madrid (Anthony’s dad), Mr. Wroblicky (Jennifer’s dad) and Mr. Flores (Camrin’s dad), for assisting in their early morning clean – up.

FAMILY NIGHT – Thank you all school families who attended FAMILY NIGHT AT BURGER CITY GRILL. As you probably are aware of, Family Nights are school fundraisers that not only raise money for the school but provide an opportunity for SMMS families to gather together to enjoy a meal at a selected restaurant. A big thank you goes out to Moms Club members Angie Herrera and Aley Arredondo for coordinating the event.

MOMS CLUB! – Thank you all our fantastic Moms for planning and preparing the ever popular BOOK FAIR!! Your record breaking efforts brought huge smiles to all our students. A special thank you goes out to Katie Lopez and Julie Phineas who co-chaired this event. Awesome!

**Congratulations to the 7th grade, 4th grade and our little ones in the T.K! All three classes won ‘Best decorated door’ at the BOOK FAIR!

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT – Thank you parents for attending this event. It was wonderful see you all and welcome you to another exciting school year. A special thank you goes out to the dads of HOLY NAME SOCIETY for providing a delicious bar-b-que. Thank you Melinda Tesoro and Dawn Taylor for all their efforts with the SPIRIT DAY TEE SHIRT BOOTH and Tiana Burkhammer for providing delicious treats!

As we take a peek into the happenings of October, let me first mention THE JOURNALISM CLUB! The JOURNALISM Club of SMMS is comprised of SMMS studentsof grades 6th ,7th ,and 8th who are interested in writing, particularly newspaper writing. They will meet this month at their kick off meeting to plan and prepare the publication of our school newspaper. Thank you Kristen Hull, (SMMS Class of 2013), for leading this project. FIRST MEETING IS ON OCTOBER 14TH

HALF DAY MONDAY - FACULTY MEETING – Please be reminded that Monday- October 3rd, is a half day. Hot lunch will still be served for all those who have pre-ordered. Daycare is also available until 6:00 p.m.

Can you believe we are halfway through our first tri- semester? This year, I changed the academic calendar a bit. Instead of ‘quarters,’ we are now on ‘semesters.’ October 7th marks the midway point to the first set of report cards. ‘Defincency Reports’ will be mailed to all parents who children are receiving a non-passing grade.

Come join us on October 14th for THE FEAST OF SAINT MARGARET MARY MASS. The 8th grade will be hosting this Mass. They are partnering with Fr. Marinello to make this Mass, a very special event. More news to follow.

The second round of STAR TESTING begins on October 24th. Please makesure that your child has a good night sleep and a healthy breakfast. The Star Tests are standardized test given four times a year. The results/ data, help us analyze data to see patterns of growth or decline.

October 30th is the first day of RED RIBBON WEEK! Our student council is currently planning fun and exciting events for all our student body to participate in. More news to follow.

HALLOWEEN – HALF DAY – HALLOWEEN DAY lands on a Monday this year. Although the day is indeed a ‘half day,’ we will most certainly still have time for our traditional ‘HALLOWEEN PARADE!!” All students may come to school on this day with their costumes. Costumes must have no fake blood and children make not bring toy weapons to school. The Halloween parade begins promptly at 11:00 a.m. Again, noon dismissal on that day. Please contact your classroom ‘room mom,’ for party times.

Blessings!
