Craig Blower
Hello ICSM! I am Craig Blower. That’s right, my surname is indeed Blower, and I want to convince you I am the best person to be your (male!) secretary.
The role of secretary is one of organisation and support, ensuring the administrative platform is in place to enable SU officers to focus their skills on the positions for which they have been elected, and to keep students informed of what these officials are implementing.
I have experienced both the requirements of, and the stresses placed on a secretary having had several secretarial roles pre-university, and additionally in my capacity as Summer Ball secretary this year. Organisation and efficiency are paramount attributes, and I look forward to applying these aspects of my personality to the secretaryship.
The communications function of the secretary places emphasis on teamwork and operating to deadlines. My time as an involved member of Light Opera has expanded my ability to work in time pressured group situations with people in a variety of roles. It also means I can sing and dance, which although not critical secretarial traits may boost team morale.
I believe I am approachable and a great listener, and thus you can be assured that, if elected, I will act as a true officer of the union and will strive to help both the SU and you in any way that I can.
Secretary is a position I feel I could excel in, and I hope I have conveyed my passion to you!
Vote Craig!
Bhakti Visani
I believe the role of secretary is integral to the efficient running of the SU, and am willing to put in the effort to ensure that this is maintained with my dedication, hard work and organization.
I have held a number of positions of responsibility over the last two years that I believe will stand me in good stead for this role:
I was secretary of Falmouth Hall committee, so am used to writing up and sending out minutes effectively and on time.
I was a year representative, so have had close affiliations with the academic side of the SU.
This year I had a great time as part of the RAG committee, so I am aware of what it takes to organize and clean up after social events in the Reynolds!
I have also been involved in Light Opera so have had experience working as part of a team, and organized the Marrow Fun Run; exercising my good leadership qualities when needed.
If elected secretary, I would strive to:
- Make it easier for clubs and societies to publicise their events through alternative media, such as an up-to-date website and the plasma screens, so as not to bombard you with e-mails!
- Ensure Union meetings are conducted efficiently and to the greatest benefit of the student body.
- Be a fun and pro-active member of the SU!
It would be a privilege to dedicate my time to the well-being of the med school, so please vote for Bhakti Visani!
