Olney Memories # 86

July16, 2011

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Olney Memories.

New people continue to join our Olney Memories group and we welcome them.

AOL notified me that they no longer have an email address for either Sue Bullard and or Margaret Davidson. If you know either or both email addresses please let me know so I can continue to send them Olney Memories.

Thank you.

I like the Olney memorabilia. I like the stories too. I never was much of a reader in my school days; I was more of a television viewer and subsequently barely graduated. I did enjoy the ODM for two reasons the comics and what was on at the movies. If you think movies are bad today see what was showing at the Drive In Aug 14, 1971.

Although I have never lived in the Olney, IL. area, I do have many ties to people there. I am also one of your OM Subscribers.

Several years ago I was fortunate enough to be given some old Funeral Notice’s (given out by Funeral Homes) and some obituaries from the newspaper there.

So far, I have counted 68 different notices. They date from 1936 into the 1980’s, and all have ties with the Olney area. I may have more if I can find them.

If any of your OM readers would like to have a copy, I will be glad to scan and email copies to them... no charge.

If you or your readers would like a list, I will be glad to send it.

I have misplaced the obituary clippings. Will let you know when I find them..

If requesting copies, please do not use this address. (rogergerber at cableone.net)

Hello Ann and OM members,

Below are two (of four) pages of a copy of the 1939 commencement program pamphlet for the OlneyTownshipHigh School. I want to share that document with all OM members, as some OM members are listed as class members. Also, many OM members had friends in the class or are children or grandchildren of a graduate. All are invited to see the rest of document with the list of graduates.

To see the class list pages, go to erhsalumni.net. There, above the ERHS hall picture, are the words, “ What’s New? Click Here.” Click on “Click Here,” and then at the top of the popup, click on the words “1939 Graduation Program.”

Thanks to Tom Abegglen, ERHS Class of 1961, who recently donated the 1939 documentto us, erhsalumni.net. It’s free a site, owned and operated by graduates for all who attended one of the township schools or ERHS and their teachers. (I stress the teachers as most don’t know they are welcome. And I mean any teacher from the school system, including grade school ones.) While there, guests are free to look around the ‘open’ pages. Only site members can open all pages.

My Best,

Richard Ray Williams, Class of 1960
