Newsletter 1, 2016

Hello Everybody,

We hope you have enjoyed the Christmas and New Year Season. We certainly did!! Particularly after returning from a 13 night cruise around New Zealand, I loved it!! I am certainly feeling rested and ready for an amazing 2016!! So much is happening for 2016 so we thought we would get in early to keep you abreast of all the excitement…

Remember that we have made a few changes to our timetable. This enables all our teacher’s to be in most classes. This gives our students more personalized attention. We hope to see significant improvement over each term in our dancer’s technique and overall dance ability. Ballajura Branch, please note that the times have slightly changed again due to unavailability of the Centre until 4.30 pm.

Uniform:

If I could remind all families that our uniform is there to enable us to view your child’s body movements in a modest way. If we could ask that parents ensure their child is in uniform at all times, it would be so greatly appreciated. Also, could students come to class on time with their hair neat, tidy and tied back as it is a lot easier to concentrate on what they are doing if they are not trying to keep their hair out of their eyes!!

We will be placing a uniform order during the school holidays so these will be available early in Term 1. If you require a new uniform, please let us know at your earliest convenience so that we may add this to our list. Please note, we will place an order for our Winter Jacketsin Term 2. As there needs to be a minimum of 10 prior to this being completed, please let us know if you are wanting one. $60 for children’s sizes. $65.00 for adult’s sizes.

Term Fees:

Invoices for term fees will be emailed out in the first week of term – including the $15.00 annual registration fee. If you have not received this by the end of the first week, please let me know so that we can rectify this. Remember, discounts apply if paid in full by the 3rdweek of term. Payment plans are available if required.

Stage/Full Dress RehearsalSaturday, 17th September 2016 – 9am to 1pm

ConcertSaturday, 17th September 2016

With regards to our concert this year, we are looking at moving venues from the Octagon Theatre to St.Hilda’s Anglican School, 26 Bay View Terrace, Mosman Park. The reason for this is, as we have grown we have needed to use the side seating at the Octagon Theatre and I have never been happy with the view from the sides. The Performing Arts Theatre at St. Hilda’s is state of the art, only a couple of years old and seats 900. 600 on the main floor and another 300 in the dress circle. I believe that we can move to this venue without any change in ticket prices. However, I am still awaiting our Stage Manager’s confirmation of prices. Both venues are booked at this stage. All dancers will be required to pay a $10.00 concert deposit that is paid to the Concert Venue to secure our booking – this amount is added to your Term 1 fees.

Costumes:

We will be handling costume funds slightly differently this year. Firstly, we are asking that all costumes are paid by cash. We are also asking for a volunteer parent from each class to receipt that class’ costume funds. These funds then go directly to Tanya Nock, our costume lady. This will reduce the amount of work required for the entire school by both myself and Joyce Jakob, our accounts clerk. Once again, this is our way of trying to keep the costs down. To give you a rough idea of what to expect, the following is a guide only:

Mini Bop2 costumes x $50.00

Little Juniors2 costumes x $50.00

Junior Jazz3 costumes x $50.00

Junior Star Jazz3 costumes x $50.00

Intermediate Jazz3-4 costumes x $50-$70.00

Performance Class2-3 costumes x $60-$80.00

Acrobatics1 costume x $50.00

Ballet1 costume x $50.00

Yummy Mummies2 costumes x $50.00

Inspire Jazz2 costumes x $50.00

Once again, we will be doing costume fundraising for those who are interested. Usually this is at the beginning of Term 2. We are also happy to do costume banking which allows parents to pay off their costumes starting from Term 1. For example – A junior student has 3 costumes x $50 = $150 paying off fortnightly (x 15 payments) or monthly (x 8 payments) significantly reduces the end payment. Cadbury Fundraising earns each dancer $20 per box, therefore, if you had 2-3 boxes of chocolates, there is $40-$60 toward your costumes. Any questions, please do not hesitate to speak with me.

Performance Classes:

Excitingly, we will be sending out the invitations to our Performance Classes via a separate email, so please keep your eyes out for this and respond at your earliest convenience. When considering if your child is able to be a part of this class, we ask that you keep in mind the following:

This class takes our dancer’s performance ability to the next level. It is extremely structured and pushes the dancers with regard to their flexibility, skill level and of course, more advanced choreography. In saying this, it will require a 100% commitment to the class and all the abovementioned performances, including Dance Camp and all Christmas Performances (which dates are not available at this stage). Of course, there are extenuating circumstances which will be considered with regards to any absentee.

Finally, we hope the last week of the school holidays is safe and enjoyable and we look forward to seeing you all ready to grove on the week commencing 1st February 2016. Please email your enrolment forms to me at your earliest convenience if you have not already done so.

Kindest regards,

Nicole Newman
