Hello all participants in last year's Dody's Honu Kukini Run/Walk!
Thank you so much for your interest in being a part of this special event honoring Dody Bronson Dahlin. We are so excited to be continuing the event again this year and we know Dody is smiling down upon us as we prepare. Below are a few of the details.
Item #1: The Route and Race Day
The Run/Walk will be on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 8:00am and will begin and end at the Aquatic Center in West Union. Although we will be starting and ending in the same place as last year, the route will be completely different. We will be taking advantage of pavement as opposed to grassy terrain this year. If you are not familiar with West Union, the address of the Aquatic Center is 800 North Pine Street. The route is not completely determined yet but will be finalized in the coming weeks. The race will be held rain or shine and will only be canceled if lightning is present at the time the race is to begin.
Item #2: Kids Fun Run
We are starting a Kids Fun Run this year which will take place following the 5K at 9:15am. Again, we will be starting and ending from the Aquatic Center parking lot. Kids will be grouped by ages and will complete varying distances. The Kids Fun Run is free to all participants but all are welcome to order shirts which will be $15 each. All kids who participate will receive a 'medal', and a 'goodie bag' with treats and items reminiscent of Dody's favorite things.
Item #3: Raffle
We have included a raffle this year to add some excitement. We will be drawing for a Kindle (one of Dody's favorite gadgets) and other items yet to be determined. You must be present to win.
Item #4: Shirts
We are working on a new and exciting theme for the shirts this year and will most likely involve a bright colored t-shirt. Again, shirts will be ready for pick up starting at 7AM the morning of the race (Saturday, June 18, 2011). There will be a table set up in the parking lot of the Aquatic Center where participants can get their shirts. Bottled water will also be provided for participants. If you are not able to join us for the race your shirts will be mailed to the address you provided.
Item #5: Charities:
Last year, we were able to donate $1600 to the West Union Park and Recreation Department to go towards the purchase of playground equipment. This year, we have chosen the North Fayette Girls Cross Country, Girls Basketball and Girls Track teams as the recipients of the profits. These were all important activities that Dody participated in while a student at North High School.
