What is Heinonline?
Provides U.S. and International law and law related full-text journal articles and early English Reports.
Accessing HeinOnline On Campus
Log on to the network in the normal way and choose a browser of your choice. The UEL menu homepage should appear. Alternatively add in the address bar.
Open the Library and Learning Services website at
Select Finding Resources
Select Databases & E-Journalsor click Databases& E-Journals from the Quick Links
From the Database A-Z list click on the letter Hto access HeinOnline
Enter your Athens Username and Password
If you are Off-Campus enter your Athens details in the Off-Campus link
Off Campus Access
You will need to have an ATHENS account to access this database off campus. You can collect your Athens usernameand password from your UEL Outlook email account. From the UEL homepage click on Students, top left, then on Webmail from the Quick Links pop up to the right. Enter your UEL log-in details and open the email Ask A Librarian to retrieve your Athens username and password. For further information visit the Athens link
HeinOnlinecan also be accessed directly from the Library Athenspage on openahens.netand choose
Login to MyAthnes
Click on Resources at the top of the page
Select HeinOnlinefrom the list of databases
Searching Heinonline
Browse Collections by Name or Browse Collections by Category
Click the link Law Journal Libraryand from the A-Z bar at the top, click on the letter that represents the first letter of the journal that you would like to access
Scroll down to the title required and click on it
Click on the year and volume that you would like to search. From the Table of Contentson the right, click on the blue link pageto access the article.
You can use the right and left arrow key at the top centreto move around the document.
To carry out Title, Author, Full Text (key words) searches click onAdvancedSearch, top left.
Enter your search terms and click on the down arrow key in the box directly to the left, to choose the type of search to be carried out, Title, Author, Full Textthen choose a connector: AND, OR, NOT etc. For more connectors click on the Search Help link at the top.
You can search by Subject by highlighting a Subjectfrom the Subject box,JournalorCitationfrom the Journal Citation box and enter ayearin the Year Box.
Click on the Blue title link(s) to view documents.
English Law Reports & Statutes of the Realm
From the browse area you can also search forEnglish Reports, Full Reprint (1220-1867) and English Law Reports pre-1865
From the Case Locator area enter case name or citation in the Enter Case Nameor Norminative Citation Box, click in the relevantbox just below and click on Locate to activate the search.
Printing, Download and Email
You can print, download and email by clicking on the iconat the topof the document.
Finally
On screen help is available at all stages when using HeinOnline, click on Help at the top right of the page.
