INSTALL ENGINE ROOM SUPPLY DUCTING INSULATION AND WIRE MESH RETAINERS

1.0Abstract

`1.1This requirement describes the Engine Room Supply Ducting Insulation repairs with a contractor provide qualified service engineer to supervise and oversight the work.

The Engine Room Supply Ducting Insulation needs repairs.

2.0References/Enclosures:

3.0Location/Description:

3.1Location: Areas needing repairs are in the Engine Room Supply Duct to Engine Room (3-80-0) between the 2nd deck and the 02 decksupply inlets.

3.2Description:

3.2.1Depending upon the deck there are three different insulation requirements from the 2nd deck to the 02 deck as indicated in reference 2.1 and 2.2.

3.3 Parts and Materials:

3.3.1There are approximately 30each 2 ft. X 3 ft. x 4 1/2 inches insulation sections which are 2 inch of 8 lb. structural insulation with the lead septum then with 2 ½ inch of 3 lb. densitythat will need to be replaced. Additionally larger section will be required that will have to be cut to fit.

3.3.2Insulation hangers 554 each4 ½ inch insulation pins, speed clips and drive caps

3.3.3Wire mesh 5544 square feet

3.3.4 Acoustic Sandwich Insulation 800 square feet

3.3.5Type II 2 “ Tuffskin Insulation 800 square feet

4.0USMMI Furnished Equipment:

4.18 gallons of Amercoat 240 Buff

4.28 gallons of Amercoat 240 off White

4.34 gallons of Prep 88

4.44 gallon thinner

5.0Notes:

5.1The Contractor and all Sub-Contractors, regardless of tier, must consult the General Technical Requirements (GTR) to determine applicability to this work item. In performance of this work item, the Contractor and all Sub-Contractors regardless of tier must comply with the requirements of all applicable GTR's including but not limited to GTR's 1 through 7 and 21 through 29. 5.2Ducting has had repairs completed during the last two VRAs but there are still additional areas which need insulation replacement, repairs, mechanical cleaning and painting, new studs installed and new wire mesh installed.

6.0Quality Assurance:

6.1All workmanship and materials shall be in accordance with the latest ABS Rules for Building and Classing Steel Vessels and to the satisfaction of and in presence of the ABS Surveyor and the Port Engineer. The insulation repairs are to comply with the referenced drawings and GTR.

7.0Statement of Work Required

7.1Check with the Chief Engineer to ensure that the ventilation supply system is secured and properly tagged out before beginning work.

7.2Temporarily remove the two manhole access covers to gain access to the inside of the ducting. One is located in the Machine Shop (2-86-1) and the other on the 01 Deck at (01-86-1).

7.3The contractor will need to provide and install temporary staging up in the ducting from the 2nd deck to the O2 deck to safely carry out the repairs.

7.4Remove all of the outer insulation in sections easily handled by the laborers and set aside to reuse. In some areas this will be 2 ½ inch acoustic insulation, others 2 inch Tuffskin or acoustic sandwich insulation.Care must be used to avoid damage to the extent possible. Then in the areas where it is installed remove the lead septum again sections which are easily handled by the laborers and set it aside for reuse. Then in areas where it is installed remove the inner layer of structural insulation in section which can be easily handled by the laborers and set aside to reuse.

7.5The uptake plating, approximately 5,000 square feet, is to be mechanically cleaned to SSPC-SP-11 in accordance with specification 0002.

7.6The uptake plating is to have 4.5 inch pins welded to the plating on one foot centers in accordance with reference 2.1

7.7The uptake plating is to then be painted with USMMI provided paint as follows:

7.7.1The first coat is to be Amercoat 240 red oxide at 3-5 mils DFT.

7.7.2The top coat is to be Amercoat 240 white at 3-5 mils DFT.

7.8After painting, the Contractor is to notify the USMMI Port Engineer to inspect. Once accepted the Contractor is to install the first layer of insulations in accordance with reference 2.2. Some areas will be the 2 inch 8 lb. density structural fire protection insulation, or the 2 inch Tuffskin or the Acoustic sandwich insulation. Any shortage due to damage during removal is to be provided by the Contractor. The USMMI Port Engineer is to be notified to inspect.

7.9After satisfactory inspection the Contractor is to install the lead septum in the areas required by reference 2.2. Again notify the USMMI Port Engineer to inspect. After acceptance, where required install the second layer of 2 ½ inch 3 ib. density acoustic insulation.

7.10After all of the insulation is installed, mask and tape the insulation then after it is dry install new galvanized wire mesh, speed clips and caps.

7.11Allow the Port Engineer to complete a final inspection, then remove the staging and reinstall the manhole covers with new contractor provided gaskets.

7.12Contractor is to clean up the work site and remove all debris and trash and reinstall the two manhole covers with new Contractor provided gaskets.

7.1.3The contractor shall provide a qualified service engineer to supervise and provide oversight of work.

8.0General Requirement:

8.1The Contractor shall provide all labor, materials, staging and tools required to accomplish this work specification, except as specified in Section 4.0.

8.2The Contractor shall remove and reinstall interferences necessary to accomplish this work specification.

8.3Inspection and acceptance of all work shall be by the Chief Engineer and the designated On-site USMMI Representative (Port Engineer).

8.4No additional work is to be accomplished without prior written approval by the Contracting Officer, Purchasing Manager or USMMI Port Engineer. The USMMI Contracting Officer, USMMI Purchasing Manager or USMMI Port Engineer is the only person authorized to give the Contractor authorization to proceed with growth or new work. The USMMI Port Engineer is the single point of contact authorized to address technical questions.

8.5A Completion of Work Report describing all work that was performed will be delivered to the Port Engineer upon completion of all work.
