Minutes

Mrs. Route’s agenda included the following:

1. Approve Oct. 31 minutes

2. Mr. Kempton -- amended budget history with detail on our current budget for council approval.

3. Mrs. Nelson U-pass Scores

4. Discussion of report due to State Nov. 21

5. Discussion of possible School Improvement Plans

6. Assign individuals to research of potential plans

7. Decide time of our next meeting

5 printed items were given to each council member.

  1. Email from Paula Plant of USOE. (charter schools are exempt from the requirements that normally would prohibit full-time school employees from serving as parents on the board)
  2. What Your School Must do to Receive School Trust Land Funds
  3. School Community Councils- A suggested Timeline
  4. 2007-08 Amended/revised school plan/budget
  5. UPASS 2008 school report with Language arts, Math & Science Breakdowns

The following items will be acted upon before our next meeting:

  • SchoolLand Trust Office will have a presentation for principals. Heather & Racheal to attend this training meeting.
  • School Land Trust Program Website & Public Meeting Notice Websites are to be updated by Ben (Vice Chair)

Budget Report (amended) / U-Pass scores
Changes:
Council decided to purchase Literacy sets in stead of guided readers.
Previous council preferred the allocation of materials over personnel.
Mr. Baird moved to adopt a philosophy of leaving a portion of funds to be rolled over to the next council.
Motion carried.
Council Ratified pg 4 of budget.
Amendments to the verbiage of our School Improvement Plan Approved / NWA Trends:
2nd 3rd & 4th grades above state Language arts average
2nd 3rd 4th, & 6th grades above state Math average
6th Grade above state Science Average
5th & 6th grade language arts low scores(specifically direct writing)
4th & 5thscience low as well
Plan:
build language arts block uniformity
Incorporate Shurley English
keep science going with implementation of Delta Kits
Potential Council Plans:
Community Focus:Community Council as eyes, ears & voice of parents & scholars.
Public Relations efforts: Service visibility, Service to neighboring business, Civic guests, Bus stop values advertisement.
Surveys for: Teacher Retention, Student Retention
