Objectives of the organisation.
(Max 200 words) / Stroud Beresford Group is a charity that has been a pioneer of specialist domestic abuse provision in Gloucestershire since the 1970s.
Research indicates that domestic abuse is most commonly experienced by women and perpetrated by men and is experienced by up to 1 in 4 women in their lifetimes.
Most children and young people who live with domestic abuse are likely to be affected by it in some way. Many children experience fear, distress, physical, psychological, emotional or developmental problems as a result of their experiences. The Adoption and Children Act 2002 acknowledged the significance of domestic abuse for children by amending the definition of ‘harm’ to include ‘impairment suffered from seeing or hearing the ill-treatment of another’.
Support, prevention and early intervention are central themes of our work. We work with people to:
  • Recognise the nature, signs and impact of domestic abuse on themselves and others.
  • Understand the options and choices available.
  • Develop knowledge, confidence and self esteem.
  • Understand basic safety planning steps and ways to reduce risk.
Through gaining knowledge and confidence and receiving guidance and emotional support, people are more able to stay safe and take control of their lives and future.
