12:15-12:30Rocky Mountain Tribal Leaders Council – Good Health and Wellness project

  • Karen Manzo, Project Director - Currently working on “Good Health and Wellness in Indian Country (GHWIC) project” with both the Crow and Blackfeet tribes (please see attached handout).
  • Sonya Big Leggins, TA/Workshop Coordinator – Currently is working on year two of their grant which includes community mobilization training, enhancing what is going on with the tribes, which includes promoting traditions. (please see attached flyer)
  • August 8 – 10 Traditional Native American Games level 1 and 3 at Crow.
  • Ada Bends, Cultural Program Coordinator – Setting up trainings and promoting American Indian Tobacco Cessation Quitline. The Rocky Mountain Tribal Leaders Council serves tribes in Montana, Wyoming, and Shoshone-Bannock in Idaho.
  • Pam Garza, Crow Outreach Worker –they are going out and having meetings about the Good Health and Wellness program.They have conducted chronic disease prevention needs assessments in schools, work sites, and community at large. Rocky Mountain Tribal Leaders have been trained for the Active Living Every Day classes (ALED) and will be starting classes this fall.

12:30-12:40Community Health Needs Assessment(CHNA) update

The Community Health Needs Assessment is done every three years and sponsored by Billings Clinic, RiverStone Health, and St. Vincent Healthcare. The phone survey is completed as well as the key informant survey. Professional Research Consultants, Inc. (PRC), who conduct the survey, said the participation numbers for the key informant survey were the best they ever have had.

Save the Date: November 10th, There will be a community forum at the Billings Public Library from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. that will include survey results and a community prioritization process that will help us frame our work going forward. We will then develop the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP)

12:50 – 1:10Healthy By Design Workgroup Updates (CHIP report published)

  • Mental Health Workgroup, co-convened with Best Beginnings of United Way of Yellowstone Valley
  • Montana 211- Nathan

Montana 211 website is up and running ( It is a resource directory for the community. United Way is housing the Montana 211 website. There is a guided search at the bottom. If you have services that you want listed, please use the contact informationat the bottom of the website page. There is not an “app” yet but the site is mobile friendly. You can link the Montana211 website to other websites. If you are searching for something and can’t find it please contact United Way.

  • 211 is currently in maintenance mode so if there are any corrections please let them know.
  • Currently working the promotion of Montana211.
  • Hoping to a have a Call Center in the future, but awaiting additional guidance and information via a national conversation.
  • Getting the funding is the next step.
  • Other call centers are funded from DPPHS, State, etc.
  • As an example, Great Falls had Voices of Hope hotline already and then added 211
  • Trauma Informed – Nathan

The workgroup, focused on trauma informed care work (DESTRESS grant) is currently focused onreaching out to targeted organizations that could be engagedin additional training and education. The workgroup has developed a form to go out and talk to organizations (see attached). After they get the form filled out the group gets together and talks about what training would be appropriate.

There has been a lot of 101 training to the public and the DESTRESS grant will focuson doing more 201 training at this time.

  • Access to Health Services Workgroup
  • HBD representatives participated in aHousing and Healthcare statewide conference (sponsored by HUD) and as a follow-up facilitated a local dialogue. Had a great level of appreciation of learning about housing and then how they learned about healthcare.
  • We have a quarterly meeting and anyone who would like to join us iswelcome.

  • The Billings Public School Food Service expanded the number of Summer Lunch in the Park sites from 9 to 15, is piloting a Summer Breakfast Program at Orchard Elementary which has seen as many as 80 participants at one time, and purchased a the food trailer to deliver summer lunch to low-income children living in the far West End of town, who previously could not access summer lunch.\Ready Community (co-convened with Best Beginnings of United Way of Yellowstone Valley) workgroup members Sysco and Family Service, Inc. have been working together to increase distribution of more fresh products to Family Service, Inc. clients. As a result, Family Service, Inc. has reduced the amount of sweets given out in recipient food boxes.

Karen Sanford-Gall – Big Sky State Games– Big Sky State Games wrapped up their 31st games.

Tommilee– RiverStone Health - Gardeners’ Market is every Thursday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. until October 6th. Save the Date: August 25th at 5:15 p.m. Bike Ride to the Gardeners’ Market. (see attached flyer)

Jeanne Manske – Billings Clinic - The Billings Clinic 2016 Classic will benefit Psychiatric Services at Billings Clinic. Imagine much needed facilities expansions, including construction of an Emergency Crisis Stabilization Unit to better serve patients with urgent psychiatric needs. Participate in growing an endowment to help sustain visionary and innovative programs to improve access and delivery of mental health care across our region and state. Empower our staff with ongoing education to implement best practices in caring for patients with mental health conditions. Through early intervention, expert care and removing the stigma of mental illness, Billings Clinic is working hard to bring hope to thousands of Montanans struggling with mental illness. Our psychiatry team is committed to providing high quality care by advocating for mental health care reform, continuing to work toward collaborative solutions to alleviate our state’s serious shortage of psychiatrists and introducing innovative treatment models for the best patient outcomes possible. Jed Barton –Living Independently for Today & Tomorrow (LIFTT) – They cover 18 counties in Montana. They got involved in the complete streets initiatives discussing the need of those withdisabilities. They are involved in housing, transportation, and healthcare. They offer classes on living well with a disability. Executing a “Walking with Ease” grant with the arthritis foundation. Serves anybody who has a disability. REV’d UP is an Ice Cream Social event August 4th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.– increasing the those with a disability involved with voting (see attached flyer). Will have materials for absentee ballots available.

Jackie Rumpf[HF1] – MSU Extension Yellowstone County – Will be offering classes this fall including a six week course about diabetes.

Phyllis Hansen – Extension Office – celebrating 50 years. Teaching an eight week course on basic cooking and how to make nutritious meals. Classes are for 1st, 3rd, and 5th grades in the schools. The kids get to see how to make better choices of food. There are two adult classes going –engagement is low.. The extension office is hiring another nutritionist. We are advertising.

Kristi Drake – Billings TrailNet – Billings TrailNet will celebrate its16th Anniversary of “the best party in Billings”, Ales for Trails, on Friday, September 23, 2016 from 5 p.m. – 10 p.m. at Dehler Park. You won’t want to miss this brewfest which will feature 50 microbrews as well as live music.Billings TrailNet is doing a lot more advocacy. They are teaching on how to ride safely. If there are any groups that you think would benefit from training let Kristi know.

Tracy Neary – St. Vincent Healthcare - Some restructuring at the hospital has occurred. They are being very thoughtful about expenses and core business in order to continue quality healthcare. The biggest loss was the daycare. They are continuing to look for someone interested in continuing the daycare facility.

Melanie Schwarz – Big Sky Economic Development (BSED) – the annual Healthcare Summit will be October 12th and 13th at 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Liz Ching – Governor’s Office of Economic Development – The governor will be at the ground breaking of RiverStone Health’s new Clinic building next Tuesday at 12:30.

Barbara Schneeman – RiverStone Health –the groundbreaking of the new clinic, 8/9/16 at12:30.
