Design Guidelines for Hospitals and Day Procedure Centres

HPI Team Structure and Responsibilities

The HPI team includes the following groups:

  • HPI Sydney specialist staff and consultants
  • NSW Department of Public Works and Services (DPWS) Health Design
  • Fisher Stewart Engineers and Building Surveyors
  • DPWS Engineers
  • Independent specialists and consultants

The team management structure is as follows:

Main Tasks:

Prepare and submit tender

Select team members and allocate tasks

Select and negotiate with external consultants

Finalise contract with client

Set overall project direction and philosophy

Set project work methodology

Establish technological basis for the delivery system

Design and coordinate project web site

Establish the format for the final guidelines

Attend advisory group meetings

Attend key industry consultation meetings

Attend important client coordination meetings

Make key presentations to the client and the industry

Shared Tasks:

Prepare the Key Findings report

Review existing guidelines on Operating Suites and Day Procedure Centres

Prepare consolidated list of concepts and clauses

Write new clauses when necessary

Position:Project Manager, Health Projects International

Responsible to:The HPI Project Director

Main Tasks:

Establish and manager the HPI Project Specific Office in Melbourne

At all times represent HPI in relation to the project

Employ data entry staff for the project

Establish project office QA protocols

Work closely with the Project Director and fully absorb the intended work methodology

Program the team tasks on a weekly basis

Allocate tasks and brief team members when necessary

Organise and attend meetings between team members and the client group

Attend the meetings of the advisory group

Represent the whole HPI team at meetings

Follow up tasks allocated to HPI team members at various meetings as necessary

Identify key industry groups and individuals to be consulted in association with the client

Organise and attend meetings between team members and industry groups

Take minutes and issue to team members and the client group

Receive the bulk of email messages and copy to the appropriate team member

Monitor responses and follow up or take action as necessary to resolve issues

Identify key points of industry group comments and discuss with key project team members

Correspond with the client groups, especially the client project manager on a daily basis

Assist the HPI Hospital Manager on the "industry impact statement"

Monitor the team performance and modify QA protocols as necessary

Advise the Project Director on key issues affecting the performance of the team

Keep a running list of project tasks and completion dates

Shared Tasks:

Work with key team members on specific Hospital type guidelines

Review existing guidelines on those specific facilities

Identify duplications with other guidelines and eliminate

Feed the information to the data entry staff

Obtain updated information from various team members and organise for data entry

Assist with the updating of the project web site on a regular basis
