Centre Support Worker – Leighton Buzzard

Main Aim and Objectives:

The Centre Support Worker’s main role is to further the aims and objectives of Headway Luton Ltd in providing quality, professional,person centred services for people with an acquired brain injury, their families and/or carers, living independently in the community.

This is to be achieved by fully supporting theSenior Centre Support Worker with the delivery of a wide range of ‘person centred’ care and support to meet the client’s individual needs at our Leighton Buzzard branch.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. To fully understand, participate and adhere to all policies and procedures at all times, detailed with the Headway Luton ‘Policies and Procedures’ manual.
  2. To undertake all relevant in-house and/or external training as required gaining a good understanding of the causes and consequences of an acquired brain injury.

(NB – training may be necessary on a different day and/or may be in Luton)

  1. To assist the Senior CSW maintain a safe, hygienic and stimulatory environment within the Centre.
  2. To gain, through experience, a workingknowledge of all clients individual needs.
  3. To actively support and help deliver Centre group activities designed to meet the individual needs of clients and help them to achieve their desired outcomes.
  4. To provide client personal care duties as required e.g. toileting, moving and handling, food preparation.
  5. To maintain client, family members and/or carers confidentiality at all times.
  6. To report all accidents, incidents, breakages or faulty equipment to the line manager immediately.
  7. To ensure all messages are passed on to their line manager promptly and accurately.
  8. To assist with paper and computer records, monitoring and reporting.
  9. To actively encourage and support clients to access alternative services, opportunities and/or activities in the local or wider community.
  10. To assist with the organisation and support of client/carer trips and activities.
  11. Toassist the staff team, whenever possible, with the organisation and support of fund raising and promotional/marketingactivities as required.
  12. To support the staff team in any other duties that are of a similar level of skill and responsibility, as directed by the linemanager.

Employment:Permanent, subject to successful completion of six month probationary period

Hours:5 hrs per week – Wednesdays only

Hours of work: 9.30am – 2.30pm

Salary:£8.32to £8.84 per hour(pay grade B4-B6) rising by twoannual increments, subject to successful probationand annual appraisal.

Any annual cost of living increaseapproved by the Board of Trustees is subject to affordability, and therefore cannot be guaranteed.

Payment:Paidby 25thof each calendar month direct into employees account

Annual leave:36 days inclusive ofBank Holidays (pro rata for part time employees)

Training:Full induction and on-going job training provided

Key Skills:Ability to work with adults with disabilities from a diverse range of ethnic, cultural and social-economic backgrounds

Able to effectively communicate with individuals and groups at all levels, both orally and in writing

Possessbasic computer skillse.g. Microsoft Word, internet

Able to undertake and utilise all appropriate training

Qualifications:No qualification necessary but an undertaking to achieve ‘Care Certificate’ or equivalent may berequired.

Experience:Experience of working with adults with disabilities (not necessarily due to an acquired brain injury) preferred, but not essential.
