Job Description

Reports to: Headmaster, Deputy Head and Director of Studies

Responsible for: carrying out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances may require and in accordance with the school’s policies.

Description of the job: The successful applicant will work closely with the Head of Girls’ Games in coordinating the planning and teaching of Physical Education across Key Stages 1 & 2. The Head of Boys’ Games will also coordinate the boys’ games programme, organising inter school and internal fixtures for the boys in the Prep School. Stimulating lessons will encourage and inspire children of all abilities and appropriate targets will be set for each individual. The successful candidate will be required to teach further academic lessons related to his/her curriculum strengths and will be responsible for the pastoral care of a class of approximately twenty children. A willingness to contribute to the extra-curricular life of the school is essential.

Key activities:

Further develop the sporting curriculum to inspire children from Key Stages 1 & 2 to lead healthy lives and strive for sporting success for themselves and for the team.

Monitor, review and update the schemes of work on a termly basis and work with the PE Department to provide a Subject Improvement Plan in the Spring Term from which the budget can be set for the following year.

Plan and deliver inspirational lessons in accordance with school and National Curriculum recommendations, creating a stimulating and safe learning environment.

Promote and develop the major boys’ games to help each child to reach their potential. An expertise in the coaching of rugby and cricket would be advantageous.

Foster good relations with neighbouring schools and further develop the inter-school fixture programme to ensure that each child from Years 4-6 participates in close competition against rival schools each term.

Liaise with the Deputy Head, Bursar, the grounds-man and catering staff at the start of each week to arrange for the smooth running of all events related to the department

Liaise with office staff at the beginning of each term to arrange appropriate transport for fixtures that term.

Organise annual sports days, galas, inter house matches and invitation festivals

Work with the ICT Department to ensure that the Sports News section of the website is updated regularly with relevant information.

Keep records of progress and write formal reports for the boys which will be sent home in February and July.

Take part in Parents’ Evenings and other activities involving parents which help to foster strong school/home relationships.

Be responsible for the pastoral care of a Prep School class of approximately 20 children, adhering to and ensuring compliance with the School’s Safeguarding Policy Statement at all times.

Create and maintain a safe working environment at all times, reporting any hazards in accordance with the School Health and Safety Policy

Liaise with local clubs and schools to develop links for a closer working relationship

Such other duties as may be reasonably expected to fulfil the functions of the post of a member of staff at Littlegarth School

Salary

Salary will depend upon qualifications and experience. The school’s salary structure is competitive and teachers are members of the Teachers’ Pension Agency having the full benefits enjoyed by maintained sector colleagues.
