Head Coach Selection Process
-All interested Coaches should make their initial intent to coach / assistant coach a team in Macdonald Hockey within the On-line registration questionnaire.
-Notification requesting Head Coaching resumes to be sent by the Macdonald Communication director via the Macdonald Websiteutilizing the current year Macdonald email contact list to all Macdonald Members.
-Notification for resume submission to be sent to membership no later thanthe beginning of the last week in August or one week after the close of on-line registration, or whichever is earlier. (Example August 24th, 2015)
-A date prior to the start of evaluations be set as the deadline for resume submissions. No exceptions. (example September 8th, 2015)
-All resumes to be directed to the Registrar or Coaching Development Mentor.
-An estimate of applicants to teams will be performed. If a disparity of coaches to teams is identified an additional call for resumes at a specific age group will sent to the membership.
-All resumes to be available for review by all current board members at the closest in date board meeting prior to evaluationscompletion. (Example September 15th2015)
-If resumes are not available for the current board to review at the set meeting date or there is no quorum formed the coach selection process will be deferred to the next board meeting prior to the end of the evaluation process. If no meeting scheduled one is to be called prior to the end of the evaluation process.
-Upon review of all resumes by each current board member a voting process will be utilized to determine the best qualified coach for each age division.
-All applicant names will be read before the vote by age division.
- example – Peewee division – applicants Mr. Byng, Mr. Smyth, Mr.Vezina, Mrs. Hart
-All applicants will be subject to the voting process and placed in order of ballots / votes for.
- Example - Mrs. Hart(5)votes; Mr.Vezina(4) votes; Mr.Byng (3) Votes; Mr.Smyth (1) Vote.
-A board Member can only vote once within an age division.
-Number of votes / Ballots per age group should not exceed the number of board members in attendance.
- Example - based on above example only 13 board members in attendance to vote.
-Voting / balloting tabulation will not be disclosed to the coaches or membership, written or verbally.
-Vote casting method can be determined by the sitting board members.
- Example-show of hands or closed ballot.
-Upon completion of the player evaluation process the agedivision convener will contact the respective coaches.Coaches will be assigned to the team in order of rank or their child’s team. The highest ranked coach has the first opportunity on team selection
- Example – Mrs. Hart (5) can coach the Peewee gold team or the team her daughter was placed on if different than the Peewee Gold Team.
-In the case where two coaches children are placed on the same team, the higher ranked coach will be given first opportunity to coach the team, if not the next highest ranked coach will be given the opportunity.
- Example 1 – Mr. Vezina (4) and Mr. Byng (3) both have children assigned to the Peewee Silver team. Mr.Vezina is given first opportunity to coach based on rank or defer to Mr.Byng.
- Example 2 – Mr. Smyth’s(1)child makes the gold team and Mrs. Hart’s daughter makes the bronze team. Mrs. Hart is given the opportunity to coach the Gold team or her daughters Bronze team. If Mrs. Hart elects to coach her daughters Bronze team than the next highest rank coach is given the opportunity.
-In the event a non-parent coach submits an application and is ranked higher than a parent coach the non-parent coach is given the first opportunity to coach their selected team.
- Upon confirmation of team assignment the coach(s) are given the opportunity to contact their team to inform them of their successful team placement.
