JOB SUMMARY:

The Divisional Community Development Manager (CDM) will work under the direct supervision of the Divisional Executive Director of Development and will take the lead role in building and cultivating relationships, community activation, and engagement with major corporations within the division, serving as a point of contact between the development department and the corporate community. The Community Development Manager will identify, recruit, cultivate, and train volunteers to implement annual development/fund raising plans within the Hawaiian and Pacific Islands. They will help to identify corporations that can contribute resources to help achieve established annual goals and support the overall mission and vision of The Salvation Army.

This motivating leader will participate in and/or oversee participant and sponsor cultivation and stewardship, strategic relationships with community organizations and businesses, volunteer recruitment and retention, and will serve as a conduit to build strong support of The Salvation Army in key markets within the Division.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

·  Excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbally and written, with a diverse environment.

·  Capacity to supervise other staff members and volunteers.

·  Ability to multi-task on a number of programs and projects.

·  Ability to learn new technologies and implement them in the support of programs or events.

·  A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of three to five years of relevant nonprofit development work and education in Public Relations, Volunteer Management or related field is strongly preferred.

·  Familiarity with Salvation Army Programs and Services is highly desirable.

·  Demonstrates high ethics and integrity.

·  Goal oriented.

·  Ability to work independently.

·  Ability to maintain detailed and accurate records.

·  Ability to relate with other departments and work together as a team player on all levels.

·  Proficient knowledge and skills in Microsoft Office software, internet based applications, and computer equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

·  Maintain a divisional database of volunteers.

·  Develops budgets for assigned fundraising and manages financial resources within the approved budget to ensure good stewardship.

·  Identifies, recruits, trains, mobilizes and cultivates volunteers to coordinate and implement priority development programs designed to meet and exceed revenue development goals.

·  Remains accountable for achieving the goals and objectives of the fundraising/development plan for their market through the development and training of volunteers.

·  Has a solid command of The Salvation Army’s Programs and service offerings and can articulate the benefits of these programs to potential community partners and sponsors.

·  Build relationships with corporate executives, Employee groups, Service Clubs, and corporate marketing and community relations departments throughout the Hawaiian and Pacific Islands to present The Salvation Army’s mission and programs to them through office visits, correspondence, conversations and Salvation Army facility tours.

·  Research and identify major corporations with volunteer programs, and in conjunction with Salvation Army facilities and programs, facilitate volunteer opportunities through these corporate structures. Develop a strategy and a list of corporations from which to promote Salvation Army programs and mission.

·  Develop an extremely well managed database of all existing corporate contacts and partnerships. Maintain good records of all contacts. Stay in contact and steward the relationships through mail, phone calls, texting, email, social media and site visits.

·  Identify and develop relationships with substantial corporate executives that can be approached for advisory board membership.

·  Strategically deploy and work alongside corporate volunteers at service events such as luncheons, awards programs, and other fundraising events and activities

·  Work with corporate partners to enhance Holiday activities; seeking corporate volunteers and sponsorship to increasing revenue, which includes but not limited to: Thanksgiving, Christmas Kettles, and Angel Tree programs.

·  Develop strong year round relationships with corporations re: kettle access on their property, and seek remedies to kettle prohibitions. Follow up and communicate appreciation and thanks after each kettle season.

·  Develop “New” innovative strategies to enhance Christmas Kettles.

·  Seek out all forms of fundraising options with corporations such as “Point of Sale” donations or any other suitable alternatives.

·  The CDM will also collaboratively coordinate with the Division and committees selected to support Divisional, revenue driven activities and events.

·  Attends staff and supervisory meetings along with key volunteer meetings relevant to assigned tasks.

·  Acts in the best interest of The Salvation Army to enhance the public image.

·  Participates in other Divisional objectives and activities as assigned.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY

• Responsible for assisting in the recruitment, selection and development of volunteer leaders, teams, and committees that are required to accomplish all Divisional revenue objectives established for their markets.

• Frequent travel may be required within CDM’s market. May be required to attend National, Territorial or local trainings, events and other meetings that are out of state.

RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS

·  Within The Salvation Army, the Community Development Manager will have a close working relationship with all members of the Development Department and other members of the Division.
Will also maintain contact with both Territorial and National Salvation Army Community Relations and Development Staff to maximize collaborative opportunities for revenue generating marketing activities and initiatives.

·  Outside of The Salvation Army, Community Development Manager will serve as an ambassador and maintain a close relationship with local boards, volunteers, business and community leaders, event chairs and committees, participants, donors to promote all Salvation Army revenue generating events and program activities within the Division.
