Post Title: / Teacher in charge of French/MFL
Post Holder / Vacant
Purpose: / To undertake the duties of a teacher as outlined in the teacher’s job description and the STPCB. In addition:
  • Take specific responsibility and accountability for the day to day management and organisation of your TLR responsibility area
  • Be an excellent classroom practitioner
  • Have an impact on educational progress beyond your assigned pupils
  • Line manage and appraise identified staff as required
  • Assist in the smooth running of the school at all times

Reporting to: / Line Manager as designated by the Principal.
Liaising with: / Principal, SLT, other Heads of Faculty and relevant staff with cross-school responsibilities, relevant support staff, LA staff, parents.
Working Time: / 195 days per year. Full time
Salary/Grade: / Teacher pay spine + TLR 2a as laid out in the school pay policy
Operational/ Strategic Planning /
  • Support and implement the vision and ethos of the school
  • Contribute to, implement and evaluate the success of School Development Plan relevant to your TLR area
  • Ensure that the work of the team/whole school (as relevant) is inclusive and issues are addressed in curriculum and/or pastoral management
  • Ensure policies are translated into practice by the team and that you bring to the attention of SLT any which may need revisions or amendments
  • Together with SLT, lead on the school self-evaluation process for your TLR area including lesson observations, monitoring of school standards and bringing about improvement
  • As appropriate contribute to the writing of self-evaluation and policy documents
  • Manage effectively the transition of pupils to and from your area of responsibility and within it
  • Promote cross curricular approaches to teaching and learning
  • Be a proactive and effective member of the senior/middle leadership team
  • Be an effective role model for your team in terms of teaching, behaviour and classroom management

Curriculum Provision: /
  • Lead the development of French/MFL across the whole school
  • Have overall responsibility and accountability for your TLR area ensuring curriculum continuity, consistency, balance, match and progression
  • Lead regular meetings relevant to your TLR area with appropriate colleagues
  • Develop, demonstrate and/or promote teaching and learning activities appropriate to full age and ability range.

Staffing
Staff Development:
Recruitment/ Deployment of Staff /
  • Take a lead role in identifying group and/or individual training needs and provide support for colleagues within your area of responsibility promoting a whole school approach
  • Act as a role model, mentor or consultant to colleagues as appropriate and encourage collaboration, co-operation and teamwork
  • Ensure your keep up to date with current developments in your TLR area and disseminate information as appropriate

Quality Assurance: /
  • Together with the senior leadership team (SLT) of the school, contribute to, monitor and review the impact of teaching and pupil progress through the analysis of data, ensuring the use of information for planning and target setting across your TLR area
  • Monitor standards including recorded work as relevant to your TLR area across the school including reviewing long and medium term planning

Management Information: /
  • To ensure the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date information concerning the strategy on the management information system.
  • To make use of analysis and evaluate performance data provided.
  • To identify and take appropriate action on issues arising from data, systems and reports; setting deadlines where necessary and reviewing progress on the action taken.
  • To produce reports within the quality assurance cycle for the curriculum area.
  • To produce reports on examination performance, including the use of value-added data.
  • In conjunction with the relevant Senior Leader, to manage the collection of data.
  • To provide the Governing Body with relevant information relating to the subject performance and development.

Communications: /
  • To ensure that all members of the school community are familiar with the aims and objectives of French/MFL
  • To ensure effective communication/consultation as appropriate with the parents of students.
  • To liaise with partner schools/colleges, higher education, Industry, Examination Boards, Awarding Bodies, primary schools, and other relevant external bodies..
  • To attend appropriate meetings as set out in the school meeting structure

Marketing and Liaison: /
  • To contribute to the Publicity and marketing activities, e.g. the collection of material for press releases.
  • To lead the development of effective links with partner schools and the community, attendance where necessary at liaison events in partner schools and the effective promotion of subjects at Open Days/Evenings and other events.
  • To actively promote the development of effective links with external agencies.

Management of Resources: /
  • Be responsible for the organisation, planning and evaluation of the school programmes as relevant to your TLR area of responsibility
  • Manage, monitor and accurately account for any budget for your area.
  • Evaluate, organise and monitor the use of resources

Pastoral System: /
  • To monitor and support the overall progress and development of students within the subject.
  • To monitor student attendance together with students' progress and performance in relation to targets set for each individual; ensuring that follow-up procedures are adhered to and that appropriate action is taken where necessary.
  • To act as a Form Tutor and to carry out the duties associated with that role as outlined in the generic job description if required
  • To ensure the Behaviour Management system is implemented in the Faculty so that effective learning can take place.
  • To take a lead role in the school’s Behaviour Management system including active participation in the on-call system/Behaviour for Learning Strategy if required.

Teaching: /
  • To undertake an appropriate programme of teaching in accordance with the duties of a main scale teacher

  • To play a full part in the life of the school community, to support its distinctive mission and ethos and to encourage and ensure staff and students to follow this example.

General Duties:
To continue personal development as agreed.
To engage actively in the performance review process.
To undertake any other duty as specified by STPCB not mentioned in the above.
