September 17, 2013

Harrisonburg Community Activities Center.

Present: Jeff Campbell, Vice President, Rich Ruozzi, President, Mike Guinn Treasurer.

Guests Present: SVTC members Corrine Makarewich, and Joe Rudmin, who took the minutes.

Minutes: Joe read the minutes from the June 25, 2013 meeting.

Old Business

Harrisonburg 4 Miler: Rich Ruozzi didn’t like the perception that the Harrisonburg 4 Miler was an SVTC race. At least one participant thought that it was, but nothing yet has been donated to the SVTC. The SVTC had good relations with Craig Lowry, and Rich told him, “Don’t make it look like an SVTC race.” The Staunton News Leader covered this race, and asked if it is the largest Harrisonburg race. Craig was disappointed in the turnout of about 120, but numbers are down for all races.

New Business

Funds: Mike Guinn reported that as of Aug. 31, 2013, the SVTC treasury has $3883.81, including funds of $1122 from the 5 summer track meets. Rich Ruozzi reported that membership was also up after the last track meet. Mike Guinn also reported that his first grand daughter was born.

Grand Caverns: J. Campbell noted that the races at Grand Caverns have had problems with timing in the past.

Down Home on the Farm: M. Guinn will time the race at Down Home on the Farm. R. Ruozzi said that he will be camping out west, but that Leslie said that she might help.

SVTC Turkey Run: R. Ruozzi said that Butch will buy turkeys for the SVTC Turkey Run on November 24, 2013. R. Ruozzi asked J. Rudmin to promote the Turkey Run on the SVTC homepage, and to post a photo of Dave Frye receiving his SVTC award.

SVTC Ten Miler: R. Ruozzi says that the SVTC ten miler needs online registration, a more professional pamphlet, and better promotion on the SVTC website. He says that we should mail flyers to previous participants, and offer free entry to those who bring a friend. He says that we should distribute flyers at races in Winchester, Charlottesville, and Crozet. Meeting participants suggested ads in magazines such as Runners World, Running Times, Blue Ridge Outdoors, Runners Journal, Daily News Record, JMU Breeze, and Massanutten “The Peak”. Meeting participants suggested distributing flyers in gyms and the Elkton Community Center. Rich Ruozzi says that we need bigger donors, such as TV Channel 3, RMH Wellness Center, Coors, Dick Myers Chevrolet, Rosetta Stone, Pack Saddle Ridge Golf Course, George’s, Tyson, Cargill, North 38, and local dentists. R. Ruozzi asked J. Rudmin to get a quote for 250 full color, glossy, 2-sided flyers from Campbell Printing on Cantrell Avenue in Harrisonburg, and to ask about a discount for reusing a template.
