KINDERGARTEN

Harcourt has included a writing component throughout the Kindergarten reading program. Because we have found Write…from the Beginning to be developmentally appropriate and successful for our students, we have attempted to blend the philosophy and strategies in WFTB into the structure of this new reading series.

Kindergarten Grade level

Volume 1

Volume 1 is the first of five volumes in the Kindergarten level.

Write…from the Beginning strategies have been correlated with Volume 1 themes. At the end of Volume 1, kindergarten students should be able to draw a picture with detailed characters and a detailed setting with one complete thought about the picture. The Kindergarten rubric will be used periodically to assess student growth. Teachers should look for scores to increase as the year progresses. The goal is to have a student score 5-6 points by the END of the year.
