Happy Birthday 22nd May to Clare Kaczkowski

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Last week we were once again treated to another of Ian Boys’ quizzes. I am always amazed at how he comes up with all these questions, so thank you again Ian. Ian puts a lot of effort in putting these quizzes together for all of us to enjoy, so for all the members who didn’t come last week maybe you can show your support for what Ian does for his next quiz. I would like to thank Gordon for taking over as chairman for the night, and Fay for once again handling the money for meals on the night.

Also at the meeting we once again welcomed back Wolfgang and Verena Sulzgruber for their second meeting. Wolfgang’s work brought him here from Austria in January and we look forward to seeing them back in the future.

This week we have renowned Economist Paul Saliba to come and talk about the “Global Economic Outlook”. This is a partner’s night and a very important night for the club. We will have a number of members of the public in attendance on the night, so please make them welcome, you never know some of them might show an interest in joining us. I would urge all members to make an effort to come on the night and make it an enjoyable night for everyone. Gordon has put a lot of work into making this a successful night, and to make it a successful night we need everyone’s help so I look forward to seeing you all there. Could you please let Julie know ASAP if you are attending and if you’re your partner will also be attending.

Next week we have John Meehan, speaking on the “Police Leadership Mentoring Program”. This is a Rotary project where businesses work with police in mentoring wayward youths. It is a great follow up from the speaker we had the other week on Kokoda trek for troubled teens. This is a meeting not to be missed.

The following week we will be transferring our meeting to the final of the Wynspeak secondary school public speaking competition in the function room at the Werribee Civic Centre Princes Hwy Werribee. There will be no meal there on the night but there will be supper so please make sure you eat before you come. The speakers will start at 7.00 pm sharp so please try and be there by 6.30 pm. I had the pleasure of hosting one of the rounds and if the quality of the speakers who performed o n the night is anything to go by, we will be in for an entertaining night, with students from schools in the Wyndham and surrounding areas competing. This is a joint project of Hoppers Crossing Rotary, Hoppers Crossing Apex and Rostrum, with the winner getting direct entry into the Rostrum Voice of Youth Competition.

Chris Egger has finalised the meal price for Changeover on the 25th of June at the Brook. It will be $55 for a three course meal, drinks will be at bar prices and Chris has opted for having a third course rather than canapés. The Laverton Choir will perform for15 to 20 minutes in the middle of the programon the night, so it is looking at being a great night.

Well that’s all for this week,

Remember the Rotary International theme for this year of “Building Communities, Bridging Continents”, and our club theme “Be out be seen”, so let’s work together and have fun.

Michael Nash
