SIX STATES SET DUI DRAGNET AT GEORGIA STATE LINES

‘Hands Across The Border’.. August 30ththroughSeptember4th

(Talmadge Bridge, Savannah) The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) will kick-off Coastal Georgia’s Labor Day drunk driving Operation Zero Tolerance enforcement campaign with a Hands Across the Border (HATB) highway safety awareness event. The event will begin Sunday night August 30th at the foot of the Talmadge Bridge in Savannah with a news conference at 8:30 PM.

‘HANDS ACROSS THE BORDER’ NEWS CONFERENCE SUNDAY

GOHS Director Bob Dallas will introduce local police and sheriff’s departments coordinating DUI enforcement with the Georgia State Patrol during localsobriety checkpoints and concentrated patrols. He will be joined by NHTSA Southeastern Regional Administrator Terry Schiavone and MADD Georgia State Executive Director Denise Thames who will talk about Georgia’s “Over The Limit. Under Arrest.” campaign. Director Dallas will also promote the upcoming Governors Highway Safety Associationnational conference at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center and the scheduled appearance of NTSB Chairman Deborah Hersman as keynote speakerMonday, August 31st.

TALMADGE BRIDGE SOBRIETY CHECKPOINT SUNDAY NIGHT

Immediately after the news conference agencies from the Southeastern Traffic Enforcement Network (SETEN) will conduct a sobriety roadcheck on the Hutchinson Island side of the bridge starting at 9:00 PM. For six days leading up to the Labor Day holiday travel weekend, the Georgia State Patrol and local police and sheriff’s deputies will participate in the 18th Annual Hands Across theBorderhighway safety awareness campaign. From Sunday, August 30th, through Friday, September 4th, 2009, Georgia law enforcement will join their traffic enforcement partners from bordering states Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee in a major southeastern Operation Zero Tolerance(OZT)impaired driving enforcement initiative.
