Hand over procedures in LIMM Milan FIR

General note

This document is to be used only for virtual ATC. All the procedures and frequency listed below may be subjected to change: check carefully all the NOTAMs on the LIMM FIR page for further development.

With the hand over point we mean that the plane should be already in contact with the new ATC at that point. That is necessary to make the pilot get a new clearance.

The use of private chat co-ordination is strongly suggested, although too many messages may result into misuse

*FRZ is a converging point of many airways. Therefore there are two basic rules: use the chat to perform co-ordination and consider the plane following route after FRZ in order to hand over the plane to the right ATC

Hand over within LIMM

We suggest first to see the LIMM FIR page to have a general idea of main sectors and to check the handing over points. The sectors are:

LIMM_APP that covers departures and arrivals of LIMC/LIME/LIML/LSZA.

Departures: it receives departing IFR traffics when airborne and hand them over to CTR, clear of conflict when passing FL150 and cleared to FL180 or 190 according to the direction of the flight. Obviously planes not reaching FL180/190 and directed towards LIPX APP (Garda), LIPP CTR (Padova), LSAG CTR (Geneve), LSAZ CTR (Zürich) have to be handed over to them respectively.

Arrivals: it receives IFR traffics from CTR at FL190/200 according to the heading. It will receive planes from LIPX APP, LIPP CTR, LSAG CTR, LSAZ CTR at the same altitude. Flights are then handed over to the TWR when established on the Localiser in case of ILS/LOC based approaches, established on the VOR radial in case of VOR based approaches, when they have visual contact of the field in case of visual approaches.

Flights below or at FL090/100 towards LIMF APP (Torino) or LIMJ APP (Genova) have to be handed over to them respectively.

LIMM APP will receive traffics from LIMF APP or LIMJ APP in case they are below or at FL195/FL200.

LIMJ APP that covers the Genova Sestri airport area. It covers till FL090/100 according to the heading. Flights towards LIMM APP area have to be handed over to LIMM APP when they are below or at FL190/200.

LIMF APP that covers Torino Caselle and Cuneo Levaldigi airports areas. It covers till FL090/100 according to the heading. Flights towards LIMM APP area have to be handed over to LIMM APP when they are below or at FL190/FL200.

LIRP APP that covers Pisa San Giusto and Firenze Peretola airports. Milan CTR will receive LIRP APP departing traffics cleared to BEROK/SPEZI crossing FL100 cleared to FL140 as long as clear by any other LIRP APP traffic. Just the opposite will be done for arrivals.

LIMM CTR that covers the whole LIMM FIR where uncovered by the already quoted sectors.

Important note: the two LIMM APP (West and East) sectors that you see in the picture on the LIMM FIR page are ONLY activated with decision of LIMM-CH or LIMM-ACH when the traffic density requires it. When the particular event requires it, more than two approach sectors or CTRs are implemented to overcome overflows. This decisions have to be taken ONLY by LIMM-CH, LIMM-ACH or any other SUPERVISOR.

Important remind: LIMM APP and LIMM CTR sectors have to be handed by ATC that correspond to the requirements of the last IVAO IT NOTAM about FRAs. Check IVAO IT main site for updates. Besides, due to scheduling limitations, the LIMM APP sector has to be scheduled as “LIMC_APP”.

Important advice: every user is kindly asked to follow these rules in order to overcome stress and typing through procedures standardisation. Procedures may be tailored to concrete situations but they can not be completely ignored or revised. Additionally, they have been formally checked and revised by other divisions’ fir chiefs. Every user that does not follow several issues of these procedures will be formally reported to IVAO HQ.
