EMERGENCY POLICY
For Serious Incidents refer to the Critical Incidents Policy
FIRE ALARM
If the Fire Alarm sounds all occupants of the building will evacuate by the nearest available exit and go as directed to the Assembly Point located in the playing fields adjacent to Lower Teddington Rd. (See Appendix 1)
The administration staff are responsible for telephoning the fire brigade and taking the registers, including visitors’ book, to the Assembly Point. Registers are taken to ensure nobody is left within the building. The fire brigade is to be informed if there are people still inside.
Under no circumstances is anyone to re-enter the building until the fire brigade has attended and proclaimed the building safe.
GAS LEAK
When a gas leak is detected the building will be evacuated. All windows where possible will be opened. The administration staff are responsible for telephoning the gas board and taking registers (including visitors) to the Assembly Point, ensuring at all times reasonable steps are taken to maintain safety. This is located
located in the playing fields adjacent to Lower Teddington Rd. Registers are taken to ensure nobody is left within the building. The fire brigade is to be informed if there are people still inside.
Under no circumstances is anyone to re-enter the building until the gas board has attended and proclaimed the building safe.
During any gas leak emergency the following is vital:
No Smoking anywhere within or outside the school buildings
Do not switch on or off any electrical appliance
During public gatherings at school:
Gatherings in Hall:
Emergency Exits marked and kept clear
Seating layout should allow for easy egress from the area in the event of an evacuation
In the event of an evacuation being required as a result of an emergency staff and children will assemble in the playground; visitors will be directed to safety
Pupils will not be allowed to be collected by their parents/carers before reaching the assembly points – all children must be marked off the register as they leave
Collapse of person during assembly, performance or in the grounds:
If the person is able to walk they should be taken to the medical room and treated accordingly.
If the person becomes unconscious, fits, or suffers a heart attack, etc the area should be cleared to allow easy access for ambulance staff.
Evacuation may be needed in the event of:
A bomb threat
Hostage situation
Natural disaster
Violence and assault
Intruder/dangerous person
Destruction or vandalism of part of the school

On discovering a fire or any emergency requiring evacuation Or on hearing the continuous sounding of the alarm/
GO TO
/ the nearest FIRE ALARM POINT and activate the alarm/ DIAL 999 / and ask for the FIRE SERVICE - giving full details of the address and location of the fire or incident within the building
/ LEAVE / by the safest exit
/ GO TO / the designated ASSEMBLY POINT: TARMACED PLAYGROUND AREA
