Haltom Lady Buff Basketball Policy

2012 – 2013

Congratulations! You are now part of the Lady Buff Basketball program for the 2012 – 2013 school year. We expect great things from this year’s teams and hope you are as excited as we are about getting started. It is our goal to make this program one in which we can all be proud. There are plenty of changes to the policy this year, so if you are a returning player/parent please be aware of those changes. The last 3 years we took a huge step in putting Lady Buff Basketball on the map. We will have to work harder this year to stay on the map. It’s just the way it is.

It takes a special person to be a Lady Buff. It takes desire and dedication. Not everyone has that desire and dedication, but you do! That is why you are here wearing the orange and black. It is our hope that when you graduate and leave this program, that you look back and view your experience on this team as one of the best in your life. It is our hope that you not only grow as a player, but as a student and person. They all go hand in hand.

Because you are a part of this program, you are representing not only yourself, but your teammates, your coaches, your school, your community and your family. Your conduct and character are a reflection upon all of us on a daily basis. Therefore to be a successful part of this program and unique opportunity, we ask that you adhere to the following Lady Buff Basketball policies:

I.  GRADES and CONDUCT: Progress reports will be checked regularly. Don’t allow yourself to be satisfied with poor grades. If you need help, ask your teacher, a coach or a teammate for assistance. We are a team and should always be willing to help each other.

Don’t allow yourself to get in grade trouble in class. If you know you are falling behind, please let one of us know and let us get with your teacher to set up a tutorial time for you. NO PASS, NO PLAY!! And we need all of you. Don’t wait until the LAST minute. Stay on top of things from the beginning.

Your conduct in the classroom is huge. Treat your teachers with respect. They will help you when needed if you show them the respect that they deserve. Consequences for poor conduct: 5 suicides for each negative report received. Remember: You are representing us all!! Reoccurring negative reports will not be tolerated and you will subject yourself to different consequences if you are a habitual behavior problem.

II.  ATTENDANCE: ALL scheduled practices, games and tournaments are required. This includes after school practice, before school practice, Saturdays, and holidays.

If you are absent from school and are going to miss practice, you must call the coaches office and let one of us know. You can call 817-547-6089

or our cell phones. A complete list of coach’s’ phone numbers are included in this handbook. We prefer that the office number and the cell phone number of the coach is called, to ensure that we get the message. Consequences for 1 missed practice – 5 suicides, 2 missed practices 10 suicides, 3 missed practices is suspension from team at the coach’s discretion. If an athlete is ill and misses 3 days of school consecutively and has a doctor’s note, modified consequences will apply, but not the suspension. All suicides will be timed. If an athlete fails to call in before missing a practice, all consequences will double!!!

If you are tardy to practice or tardy to regular classes, or late to a game the following consequences will apply: 1st tardy – 1 double suicides for individual and team, 2nd tardy – 2 double suicides for individual and team, 3rd tardy – 3 double suicides for individual. If you are late for a game 3 times, it must not be that important to you and after you complete your running, you will be suspended at the discretion of your coach. All suicides will be timed!!

The following are workout times for each team:

Varsity – 7am-9:15am – practice begins at 7:00!!!!!

JV – 7am-9:15am – practice begins at 7:00!!!!

Freshman – 7:00am – 8:30am –practice begins at 7:00!!!!

All Teams on Saturdays and Holidays – 8:00 – 10:00 a.m and on select days after school!!

If for some reason you should be suspended from school you will be subjected to the consequences of being absent and be suspended from next game.

The purpose of practice is to prepare for game situations, to transform a group of individuals into a team and to allow the team to achieve their maximum potential. It is important that we approach each practice as an opportunity to improve. It is imperative that the atmosphere in the gym be one of concentration and intensity. And remember to have FUN while you’re working!!!

III.  DRESS CODE: Athletes are required to be in compliance with school dress code at all times. The athlete is required to be in school issued workout clothes for every practice, unless otherwise stated by the coach. Consequences: 1 double suicide per offense. We are a team and want to look like one. Game Day Attire will be established at a later date, but a few things are for certain: no pajamas or house shoes will be worn to games, no flip flops and you must stay in school dress code when we travel. If we want to be first rate, we must look first rate!!!!

No jewelry may be worn in practice. Consequences: 1 double suicide

IV.  FIGHTING: DONT DO IT!! It is not worth it. If you get in a fight of any kind ( with a teammate, opponent or schoolmate) you will be subjected to the district’s Code of Conduct discipline and team discipline, which will be determined per situation.

V.  QUITTING: If for some reason you wish to quit basketball, you must come in and have a conference with Coach Rogers. Be prepared to

discuss the situation. This conference is necessary in order to avoid making a rash decision.

If after the conference, you still wish to quit, we will then call your parent’s to inform them of your decision. If you quit one sport, you are not allowed to participate at all in another sport until the sport you quit has ended.

VI.  ROAD TRIPS: When traveling to away games, again you must remember you are representing many people. Act accordingly!! We want everyone we come in contact with to think you are the best group of young ladies they ever encountered. Leave a good impression, wherever you go. Saying “ma’am and sir” is a good practice. When dealing with people from other schools (parent’s, administrators, athlete’s or student’s) you are expected to show them respect. Keep your emotions in check and your wits about you even in bad situations.

When dining out after games, please be courteous to your server. They have a job to do and don’t need us making their job any harder. We must always, always clean the area in which we ate before we leave the establishment.

Keep the noise level DOWN while we are dining!!

While riding the bus to and from games, you are expected to comply with bus policy. No standing up and no screaming!!! If you eat something on the bus, you are expected to take your trash with you when you depart. Any reports from the bus driver that we left a messy bus will get the entire team 1 double suicide.

Athletes are expected to ride the bus to and from games. The only exception is if a kid is injured at the game or is obviously ill. There will be consequences for not riding the bus home otherwise. We are a team.

VII.  EQUIPMENT AND UNIFORMS: Each athlete is responsible for her uniform 0 clothes. If lost, the athlete must pay for the item in order to be issued a new one. Keep in mind, we only have so many uniforms. If you lose yours, there may not be another one for you to wear. Be responsible!! All issued uniforms or equipment are due back

the first Monday after the season ends. Lady Buff issued attire is not to be worn at any time other than when we are playing or practicing!!! No exceptions!!!!

VIII.  LOCKER ROOM: Our locker room is like our home away from home. Please keep it neat and clean. Don’t create unnecessary work for someone else. Any items left on the floor or benches will result in 1 double suicide for the entire team. Keep things locked at all times. If you lock your possessions up, they will be safe. There are people other than

us in and out of the dressing room all of the time, don’t take any chances. Be smart!!! If for some reason you are caught stealing anything, from

anyone, at anytime, you will be automatically removed from this

program!!

IX.  Issues covered in the athlete Code of Conduct will also be enforced. The Code of Conduct covers things such as drugs, alcohol, technical fouls, etc. You will be subjected to the discipline policy laid down by BISD.

Other issues may arise that are not covered in this handbook. Those issues will be handled at the discretion of the coaching staff. All decisions made by the staff are made with the interest of everyone involved in our program. In order to avoid chaos, rules are necessary. It is the hope of this coaching staff that we never have to punish anyone for anything. That would mean we are all making the right choices.

Our door is always open for athletes and parents. Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you. Thank you for being a part of our program. We look forward to an awesome year.

WE ARE HALTOM,

Coach Rogers
