GWSU Financial Assistance from Thin Mint Sprint

The Greater Waco Service Unit of Girl Scouts of Central Texas offers limited financial scholarships for registered Girl Scouts whose personal circumstances may be an obstacle to fully engage in troop and service unit events and travel opportunities. Awards may not be used for passport expenses, souvenirs, spending money or non-mandatory excursions/fees.

Individual Girl Scouts and Girl Scouts who are in troops or groups are both eligible to apply. However, entire troops/groups may not apply. A girl may receive only one award within a 2-year period. Awards will not be given as reimbursements for previous trips taken or events attended.

Girls must be currently registered and have participated in BOTH fall product and Girl Scout Cookie programs AND volunteered for the current year’s Thin Mint Sprint. Girls who have earned Cookie Dough must utilize their Cookie Dough funds, if permitted by the council, before financial assistance from this fund will be awarded.

Any girl who has received assistance from this fund in the previous Girl Scout year (Oct.1 – Sept 31) is ineligible for assistance in the current year. Assistance will be given to any individual girl only every other year. There is a maximum award of $300 per girl every 2 years.

All financial assistance is based on the information provided and the availability of funds.

Financial assistance from this fund is meant to supplement funds that girls, in their troops and groups, have saved or generated from money earning projects and should not be expected to cover 100% of any need.

APPLICATION PROCESS: Application forms are available on the Service Unit website (GWSU.ORG), from the Waco Bluebonnet Service Center.

Completed applications, with any supporting documents, are due to the Thin Mint Sprint mailbox at the Waco Bluebonnet Service Center by February 25th each year. Email and mailing address is provided on GWSU.ORG.

The application must be completed entirely. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

The applicant herself must fill out the application. Daisy Girl Scouts may have assistance from an adult.

SELECTION PROCESS: This Thin Mint Sprint Financial Assistance selection committee is made up of adults from the community, who are not Girl Scout volunteers or paid staff, and chaired by the Thin Mint Sprint Race Director or other Service Team Member as appointed by the Service Unit Director for the current year.

This group will receive and evaluate applications, recommend award amounts and meet before April 1st to select recipients. Recipients will be notified by mail before April 15th.
