Guidelines to volunteer work at the Asia Center Foundation

Our childcare centers are depending entirely on the financial help from donors from around the world therefore ACF also welcomes applications from volunteers to help with day to day tasks.

We require a minimum of 3 months for a volunteer period. We also accept individuals for internships depending on whether we are able to accommodate the individual’s specific requirements. Volunteers first of all are required to have a certain attitude of willingness to do anything that they may be asked to do. Due to language being the main barrier, tasks set are usually practical. Volunteers are asked to help with general tasks due to the fact that the English ability of both the staff and children are limited, and translators are not always available. Duties will include cleaning, sweeping, washing up, preparation of food, helping hand out food to the children, supervising the children, assisting the teachers in the classrooms with different projects. Practical projects such as art classes or dancing may be included in duties.

Types of duties for Volunteers.

  • Sweeping outside in the playground
  • Helping with preparation for lunch (chopping and peeling vegetables etc).
  • Help with the clean up after lunch, sweeping, mopping, wiping down the tables.
  • Sharpening pencils
  • Monitoring the children
  • Help assist with any children who may struggle to listen or have difficulty with a particular lesson.
  • Monitoring children when they go to the bathroom.
  • Assisting the teachers when required.
  • Washing dishes.
  • Help teach Art, Bible, or Sport classes.
  • Teach English classes depending on qualifications and clear accent.

*Volunteers may have the opportunity to teach English to the children, however only those who have a TEFL certificate as well as some basic knowledge of Thai will be considered. TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) skills are very important should a volunteer be interested in a longer volunteer period with ACF. ACF will give preference to volunteers who already have practical teaching experience in different cultures.

If there is anything specific that a volunteer would like to do, or take part in please do not hesitate to just ask us. We are very open to hearing new ideas or implementing new activities should we be able to accommodate them.

Visa Information

For a volunteer period of 90 days or longer then a NON-IMMIGRANT TYPE ‘O’ visa is required. This should be organized in one’s own country before travelling to Thailand. This will provide you with a 90 day stay in Thailand. ACF will provide the necessary documents such as a letter of invitation, company details etc upon request.

If you wish to stay longer than 90 days then you will need to leave Thailand and re-enter to obtain a new visa. A ‘Visa Run’ can be made to a neighboring country and there are many companies who are able to organize this for you once in Thailand.
