Guidance for Front of House Manager

The Front of House Manager’s File is kept up-dated prior to each production and retained by Dennis Breakspear who will ensure that the relevant information is passed on to the designated FOH Manager for each production.

The Front of House Manager is not necessarily expected to carry out all of the following but may delegate to responsible persons and ensure that they are carried out.

  1. Ensure that the required number of FOH staff to be present each

evening (normally 4 stewards who will issue programmes and show patrons to their seats if required)

Ensure that staffing of the Box Office has been arranged.

  1. Greet the Wyvern ushers as they arrive and introduce themselves. Confirm that they are they as emergency evacuation stewards only and all other FOH matters will be dealt with by our own stewards
  1. Check auditorium to ensure that wheelchair spaces are free when required, or that the removable seating is installed when wheelchair spaces have been sold as regular seats. (Liaise with Box Office and Arts Centre Duty Manager).
  1. Ensure that all Box Office and FOH staff are at the theatre at least

45 minutes prior to performance, that they sign in on arrival and are introduced to the Arts Centre Duty Manager.

  1. Seven days prior to opening night ensure that the Arts Centre Management are in possession of a list of all the FOH Phoenix Staff for each evening .
  1. Ensure that all FOH staff visibly wear the venue’s ‘Stewards’ badge or Phoenix FOH badge.
  1. Ensure that when the Stage Door is unlocked a member of the society is in situ to sign in cast and crew on arrival. The stage door to be locked at 7.00.pm and the ‘signing in ‘book taken up to backstage. All latecomers must enter by the main entrance and sign themselves in.
  1. Ensure that the Box Office staff have received the float from the Treasurer and that all tickets and all paperwork required for each performance is available.
  1. FOH Manager to be ready to deal with latecomers, showing them to the vacant seats in row P at the rear of the auditorium at an appropriate time.

11. The FOH Manager or a designated FOH Steward must remain downstairs with the public throughout the interval as the link between the public, the Phoenix Players and the Arts Centre Duty Manager.

  1. Ensure that all Box Office and FOH staff report to FOH Manager

when leaving and that they all sign out.

  1. The Front of House Manager is responsible for the conduct and behaviour of all FOH & Box Office staff.
  1. Liaise with the Social Committee re arrangements for the after show supper.
