S A I L I N G I N S T R U C T I O N S

1 RULES- The regatta will be governed by “The Racing Rules of Sailing” (RRS), the prescriptions of the United States Sailing Associations (US Sailing), the rules of the Interlake Sailing Class Association (ISCA), except as any of these are changed by these sailing instructions. The regatta is designated Category A, except that for boats owned by a Junior Sailing Program the regatta is designated cat B.

2 ENTRIES AND ELIGIBILITY—

2.1—Only Interlake Class boats as defined by the ISCA may enter. Each boat must complete

registration with the organizing authority and pay all fees before becoming an official

competitor.

2.2—All entrants under the age of 18 must have parental permission.

2.3—Eligibility requirements for Junior entrants are as follows:

a) The skipper and one crew must be a maximum of nineteen (19) years old on Aug 10th, 2013

b) Boats competing as “Junior” shall display a ribbon from the end of its boom.

3 NOTICES TO COMPETITORS—will be posted on the official notice board located in the foyer of the GTYC.

4 CHANGES IN SAILING INSTRUCTIONS-will be posted on notice board at GTYC.

5 SIGNALS MADE ASHORE—will be displayed from the GTYC Flagstaff. Flag AP with two horns (one horn when lowered) means “race postponed.” The warning signal will be made not less than thirty minutes after AP is lowered.

7 RACING AREA—will be the west Arm of Grand Travers Bay, Traverse City, Michigan.

8 COURSES – to be sailed will be indicated by a signboard on the Race Committee (RC) signal boat.

8.1 The number displayed by the RC boat will indicate the number of legs.

8.2 If the RC sets an offset mark adjacent to the windward mark, boats shall also round the

offset mark after rounding the windward mark.

8.3 All marks shall be rounded to port, except on a downwind finish when the finish mark will

be passed on starboard.

9 MARKS The marks shall be inflatable or one of the four permanent GTYC marks. The four permanent are: Red 8 (R8), Sandpit (SP), Bryant Park (BP), and Yacht Club (YC). See diagram for approximate locations of these marks. Note: R8 is a large red government navigational buoy, the other three permanent marks are white/orange cylinders.

10 THE START

10.1 Races will be started using Rule 26

10.2 A boat shall not start later than five minutes after her starting signal.

11 CHANGE OF COURSE AFTER THE START

11.1 Mark location change will be signaled before the leading boat has begun the leg, although the new mark may not yet be in position. Any mark to be rounded after rounding the new mark may be relocated to maintain the original course configuration.

11.2 Shortening of course may occur during any leg.

12 THE FINISH – The finishing line will be between a staff displaying a flag or shape on an RC boat and the course side of the nearby mark at the port end for windward finish and starboard for leeward.

13 TIME LIMIT—will be ninety minutes. Time limit for lead boat to first mark is forty-five minutes. Boats failing to finish within thirty minutes after the first boat finishes will be scored DNF. This changes RRS 35.

14 PROTESTS

14.1 Protests shall be written of forms available at the race office and delivered there within one

hour after the docking of the RC boat.

14.2 Protests shall be heard in approximately the order of receipt as soon as possible.

14.3 Protest notices will be posted within 30 minutes of the protest limit to inform competitors

where and when there is a hearing in which they are parties to a hearing or named as witnesses.

15 SCORING – The low point scoring system will apply modified as follows:

a) Each Boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores.

b) One race shall be completed to constitute a series.

c) Boats that are DNF or RET will be scored one more point than the last finishing boat.

16 PRIZES – First thru third in the open event. Junior champion (Junior Skipper 19-). First place Master’s (skipper 60+). First place Lady’s (women skipper).
