Group Project: Teach A Class –Name ______

Project Materials - Due on the day of your presentation

  • All members of the group will be responsible for the presentation of material and will receive and individual grade given by your team members and a class grade for the project. There cannot be more than 5 group members. ALL GROUP MEMBERS MUST PRESENT SOME PART OF THE LESSON.
  • Be creative with the way you present the material. This is your chance to teach the way you would like to be taught. (Remember – good ideas may be incorporated into future classes.) See possible topics list below.
  • Topic material must be approved by the teacher, but can be anything covered in 9th grade biology chapters listed in your packet. Remember the group is only responsible for one section within the chapter selected.
  • Presentations will count for two test grades and will be graded based on completeness of the lesson. A good lesson will follow the outline below. The group will also receive a grade for deadlines met and materials turned in the day of the presentation.
  • All members must speak during the presentation; some may speak more than others.
  • All presentations must be a minimum of 40 minutes long and a maximum of 50 minutes.
  • All work is due by the specified date. NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED!

Outline for class presentations: (50 minute maximum)

  1. Your presentation must have the following:
  1. Opening/New Info & Build Interest (Class Opener)(~10minutes)

Example: Warm Up, Focus Question, Journal Assignment, 2 minute Video Clip, KWL, Think Pair Share, Do Now etc.

  1. Work/Guided Practice (Powerpoint or Prezi)
  1. Lesson (~ 15 minutes)

Must include key terms:

  • Key terms and definitions,
  • real-life applications of information (discussion with question and answer period for the class. Be prepared to ask and answer questions)

present on whiteboard, by overhead, by smart board with handouts, etc.

Briefly review what was covered and see if students have any questions.

a. Standard – The Georgia Performance Standards tell you about the characteristics of science and science content that you are expected to teach for each topic in each grade. (You may find the standard at the beginning of the text book.)

b. Essential Questions – These are the questions that your students should be able to answer at the end of the lesson.

c. Vocabulary Words (6 words)–These are the new vocabulary words that you will be teaching in your lesson.

d. Opening/New Info & Build Interest –Howwould you liketointroduce new lesson to your students? Make sure you make it interesting.

e. Work / Guided Practice –You will include a presentation, hands - on activity, or worksheets used.

f. Closing – How would you like to end the lesson? You must check the knowledge gained on the material. You MUST include the ASSESSMENT. This is the way you will know if your students understood the material.

  1. Cut out the Project Label.
  2. Fill in the information.
  3. If you have your project on a flash drive, then put your flash drive in a zip lock bag.
  4. Put your Project Label inside the zip lock bag, so that the label is visible.
  5. Place your zip lock bag in your period’s turn in box.
  6. Turn in any printed sheets separately for your group together.
