JOB DESCRIPTION

GROUP II - INTEGRATION PARAPROFESSIONAL DUTIES

The paraprofessional's primary duties in serving assigned students are focused on the successful education experience of the student in the classroom, small group, or one to one setting. Assigned students' IEP goals in all the varied school settings take precedence over any other duties.

A. Physical Environment:

  1. See that special materials and equipment are kept in a safe and orderly condition;
  2. Accommodate or create teaching materials under direction of supervisor;
  3. Keep records and progress notes as directed by classroom teacher and special education supervisor.

B. Personal Needs:

  1. Personal Care training is required and may include one of the following or other as assigned by Case Manager/Director:
  2. Respiration
  3. Toileting
  4. Feeding
  5. Mobility
  6. Seizure management
  7. Sign Language
  8. Help with dressing/undressing and personal hygiene needs (e.g., toileting, washing, teeth brushing) as necessary;
  9. See that students get from place to place safely and quietly within the classroom and other settings in and outside the school building, as necessary;
  10. Lunch and/or recess duties may include minimal feeding assistance and training, and adapted playground activities, as necessary;
  11. Check that student has working adaptive equipment or aides (glasses, hearing aids, chairs, etc.) and is using them.
  12. Assist with lifting and carrying of the student may be necessary as part of attending to personal care needs, transferring the student to participate in varied activities, and for evacuation in case of fire drills or other building emergencies.

C. Instructional Needs:

  1. Large group, small group, or 1:1 instruction under special education teacher direction and supervision;
  2. Implementing lesson plans with minimal supervision from supervising special education teacher;
  3. Provide support and/or redirection of student's attention during teacher directed group instruction, and support and guide seat work activities;
  4. Support and implement behavior modification programs in all instructional settings;
  5. Working independently in alternative site or in the community;
  6. Instructional program training is required and may include one of the following or other as assigned by Case Manager/Director:
  7. Orton Gillingham
  8. Wilson
  9. Social Skills intervention
  10. Reading Recovery
  11. Assist OT, PT, or SLP in carrying out related services activities under supervision and direction of related services provider and teacher;
  12. Assist teachers in related arts areas as necessary;
  13. Work with other students in the classroom as assigned.

D. Planning/Monitoring Needs:

  1. Meet with regular education and special education teachers or student planning team for assignment of instructional duties and monitoring of student progress as scheduled;
  2. Meet with support staff (OT, PT, SLP) as needed to report progress and receive instruction;
  3. Participate in in-service and on-the-job training sessions, as needed.

E. Other:

  1. Other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or building administrator.
  2. Assignment to another student may be made in the absence of a regularly assigned student; and personal care needs may be assigned.
  3. Specialized training is required and may include one of the following or other as assigned by Case Manager/Director:

a)Restraint/De-escalation training

b)LSCI

c)Behavior Modification Program

d)TEACCH Training

e)PECS

f)Significant Materials preparation (ex. Boardmaker)

g)Applied Behavioral Analysis

h)Discreet trial training

The number of hours spent at each of these duties may vary according to the need of the individual students in the program. Assignment of these duties shall be made by the special educator in consultation with the classroom teacher and building administrator.
