Case Study topic:Select an industryfrom Qatar or GCC region (for instance, telecommunications, oil & gas, food, recreation, etc.) and link it to one of the market structures that you have learned in this course.

Based on the four types of markets (Perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly and monopoly), you are required to select one industry(as a case study) from Qatar or GCC region (telecommunications, oil & gas, food, recreation, etc.) and link it to one of the four markets. You need to produce a written reportbased on the case study that you are choosing (1,000 words) and in discussionwith your classmates. You can have the option as well with your group team to present your case study as a poster.

1. Introduction

The introduction should include;

A-Abrief introduction about the market/the case study that you have chosen. It should also provide an outline of the discussion that follows.

B-A Discussion on the details of the case study (the industry) that you are choosing.

C-A Discussion of the characteristics of the industry in line with the market structure.The team has to provide some statistics about the industry and the activities of the firms operating in this market.

This section should explain whether the allocative and productivity efficiency could be achieved in this market.

This should summarize your major points. You should not introduce any new issues here, but simply draw together your major points.

Group Case Study and marking guide

Case Study Guidelines:

  1. The prescribed length is between 1,000- 1,200 words and it should not exceed this limit.
  2. This case study is worth 5% of the total assessment.
  3. The due date of the case study report/poster is 25 May to ECON 111 instructor.You can submit it in class(hard copy) or by email (soft copy).
  4. You are encouraged to use headings and sub-headings.
  5. No extensions will be granted without a valid reason. If you have a valid reason for an extension you must make a request before due date (at least one week in advance).
  6. The reportmust be properly referenced.
  7. Any student suspected of copying another person's work or plagiarising from the internet will be thoroughly investigated.
  8. You should use the size 12 and times new roman for theme fonts. The distance between lines should be 1.5.
  9. The report should be typed and well presented.

Student should submit a cover page that includes a full name, University ID, course name, course code andsection number.
