Greetings CTE Colleagues,
We are so excited you will be joining us next week at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg for the CTE Network Summer Conference! We wanted to send a few tidbits your way that might make your stay more comfortable. Please let us know if we can provide you with further resources.
Lodging
Two hotels have blocks reserved under the name “CTE Summer Retreat.” The Econo Lodge has a low government rate, is close to campus, a bit away from town and just across the parking lot from Applebee’s. The Holiday Inn Express has a regular rate for next week (too many weddings!), is walking distance from downtown pubs and restaurants, about 7 miles from campus, and on the Umpqua river.

Conference Agenda
The conference agenda is attached to this email. We are expecting over 70 participants in this year’s conference and have a packed agenda. There will be something for everyone during our short time together.
Conference Connection
Let’s connect during the conference! We are going to attempt to capture your questions, important ideas, pictures and your opinions using social media. Use the hashtag #CTEnetwork to connect during and after the event. Prior to the conference you may want to sign up for a twitter account or other social media platform.
Conference Location
The conference will be held in the Lang Center which houses the Southern Oregon Wine Institute. As you drive toward campus on Umpqua College Rd, the Lang Center is the large modern building on the left with the vineyard in front. As you approach the Lang Center, you may notice that we are having some fencing issues. Deer really like grapes. You can enter the large ‘car gate’ using the code 7777 (it’s printed on the keypad…deer can’t read) or you can park in a white-marked visitor space in the parking lot outside and enter using the ‘man gate’ to the left. The number of spaces inside the gate is limited, so please park outside and walk up if you are able. Also, try not to let a deer in with you!
Our primary convening space will be in the event center which is on the second floor. Breakfast and lunch will be catered on both Thursday and Friday by UCC’s RiverRush Catering.

More UCC
While the Lang Center is beautiful, it’s just one part of our exceptional campus. You might enjoy our walking trails, track, or swimming pool (open swim from 1-4 and 7-9 daily). Please let Joan know if you’d like to be pointed in the right direction. UCC is closed on Fridays during the summer, so if you are looking for a gift from the bookstore, Thursday is your day.
More Roseburg
The week of our retreat is also the week of the Douglas County Fair. If you are into Ag, you will probably get a big kick out of it! (
Roseburg has nearly 30 vineyards, including 2013’s Oregon Vineyard of the Year, Abacela. (
Highway 138 leads out of town toward Diamond and Crater Lakes with many waterfalls along the way (
Please do not hesitate to call Joan (541-530-6923) or Analicia (541-670-0324) on their cell phones if you have any questions before or during your stay!
Most Sincerely,
Analicia Nicholson and Joan Campbell
