(from Michelle Coenen, Secretary)

The meeting was opened by welcoming new members and guests.

The monthly mini was made by Lois Pirozek and won by Maxine Lang. The August monthly mini will be from Mary Anne Nooney.

Sue Herbst had some updates on the progress of the quilt show. All challenge quilts will go under the ‘Art’ quilt category. If you are entering a quilt from the Grab Bag challenge, you may choose to register under the person who made the quilt, or who currently owns the quilt. Committee chairs were given sign up sheets and will be looking for more volunteers at the next meeting. Please remember that there are still opportunities to sell advertising in our quilt show program (deadline, August 10th). Also, any donations for the boutique will be greatly appreciated.

Sign up sheets for the quilt show classes will be available at the next meeting. There will be two classes from Scott Murkin available. At his website, there is a picture of his ‘Strata Quilts’ and also ‘Making Waves’. We will also have Jan Johnson teaching a bird appliqué class and she will have some small kits containing the bird fabric available. Mary Hart from the Wooden Thimble will be teaching ‘Hidden Spools’.

Michele Hayden has brochures for the AQS bus trip on October 31. Cost is $65 and includes transportation, admission to the show, and supper at The Machine Shed in Des Moines. You will be responsible for your lunch while at the show. There are several food choices available. As of the time of the guild meeting, the bus is half full.

The raffle tickets are ready for the quilt show raffle quilt. Each guild member is asked to try to sell a minimum of ten raffle tickets.

A sign up sheet was passed around for Fons and Porter magazine subscriptions. The cost is $20, with $5 from each subscription going to our guild.

The guild passed around a get well card to sign for Vicky Bata. We all wish her well as she recuperates from her broken ankle.

Through Terri Watkins’ employer, Midwest Energy, the guild received a check for $136.25 for Terri’s continued efforts as a volunteer in the community. Midwest Energy compensates their employees for volunteering for community non-profit organizations.

The date for the next Fall Fest was announced. Mark your calendars for September 25th and 26th, 2010. You may take a sneak peek of the “Moose on the Porch” patterns at .

Our program for the evening was our bi-annual potluck. Members presented their items for show and tell.

A LOOK AHEAD: PROGRAMS FOR THE FOLLOWING MONTHS:

September—Marie Oman, designer of “Two for Tea” quilting patterns, will highlight prairie points, the use of them and how to do them.

October—We will spend time talking to all the quilt show winners by displaying their quilt, talking about their inspirations and what they learned while making their prize-winning quilt. People who took classes should come with what they made. Everyone needs to bring their challenge quilts.

November—Linda Poppken from Akron, who works at the quilt shop in LeMars, will talk about challenge quilts and how she comes up with the inspiration for the challenges she has participated in.

December—Potluck and Christmas celebration. What should we do? Suggestions welcome.

January—A parade of aprons. Make an apron and everyone will vote on best of show and other categories. This is an easy one to postpone if the weather does not cooperate. This will be our guild challenge for 2010.

I have calls into Billie Hanson, the “Professional Tote Bag Lady”. I have not heard back from her. If you have any contacts or interests, please, let me know so I can get going on other programs for 2010. Thanks for you input and help—this is your guild and everyone needs to let their thoughts be known. Lois
