BOARD OF DIRECTORS
REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING
July 9, 2001
CALL TO ORDER
The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of the Greenwich Township Recreation Association was called to order at 7:50 p.m., Monday, July 9, 2001, in the Township’s Municipal Building. The presiding officer was Joanne Cipperly. The following members were present:

A quorum was not met at the start of the meeting. Quorum met approximately 20 minutes into the meeting.
SECRETARY’S REPORT
The minutes for the regular monthly meeting of June 4, 2001 were not distributed.
They will be distributed for approval at the August meeting.
MONTHLY FINANCIALS
No financials were distributed.
PRESENT ACTIVITIES
*Baseball
Janet Comerford reported that the Midget Travel team participated in the Forks Tournament. Won 1 game, lost 2. Due to lack of players (injuries & vacations) the travel team will not be participating in any additional tournaments.
The Biddy Travel team are participating in the Nazareth Tournament. They remain undefeated (record 4-0) and advance to the finals to be played on Tuesday, July 10, 2001.
The majority of uniforms have been collected. Still outstanding are travel team uniforms, Junior level players, and approximately 10-12 others. Another hand in date will be assigned and communicated.
Pictures received to date have been distributed. Pictures remain for those individuals that uniforms have not been received.
Junior Level head coach, Don Krajewski has resigned. Larry Borsi has taken over the head coach responsibilities. The Junior level’s last regular season game is scheduled for July 12.
*Community Day
Scheduled for Saturday, September 22, 2001. Traditional relay races with area gift certificates as prizes. Help is needed to sell discounted recreation wear.
*Equipment Shed
Janet Comerford reported that inventory has been taken for soccer and numbers forwarded to Rick Gengaro.
*Field Maintenance
Janet Comerford reported in a relayed message from Kevin Chandlee that Kevin met with Mike Finelli and John Howell this past Friday concerning the status of the Beatty Road fields. Beatty Road field will be shut down in order to concentrate on the field/turf management. No soccer games or practices are to be scheduled at Beatty Road. Field preparations will begin late August, early September. Field to be reopened for the Spring 2002 baseball season.
The garbage cans at the Beatty Road fields have arrived.
The church field will be available for use during the field hockey season.
ACTION ITEM: Kevin Chandlee to speak with David Niles during the winter months with reference to dugouts at Stecker field.
*Field Hockey
Joanne Cipperly reported the 7th and 8th grade field hockey level will be able to participate with the middle school Phillipsburg team run by Mr. Fisher of Phillipsburg High School. We have approximately 6 players registered at this level. There are no tryouts. There will be a minimal fee, but this will be paid by recreation from the registration monies already collected. It has been approved to use the field behind the Stewartsville Elementary School.
On the younger level (grades 2-6), we have 2 teams. Any further registrations will not be accepted due to existing numbers. This level will be participating in the Washington League. No fees. Instructional only.
Interested coaching staff is Carol Schwar, Ed Schultz, Charlie Henshaw and Joe Kleim.
New rule in effect: Every child has to score a goal on the team before scoring another goal.
ACTION ITEM: Janet Comerford to take an inventory of field hockey uniforms and equipment.
*Soccer
Due to the numbers registered and lack of volunteer coaches, no more registrations will be accepted. A waiting list will be generated. Looking at a total of 28-30 teams consisting of (preliminary numbers): 6 Kinder Kickers, 10 Little Kickers, 5 Biddy, 5 Intermediates, 2 Seniors. Some levels are still very much in need of coaches.
Soccer league has decided to include a playoff system for this season. The final week of soccer (3rd week in November) will be dedicated to playoffs instead of regular league play.
Rick Gengaro has been investigating the costs and benefits of the NJ Youth Soccer and Professional Trainer options. At the present time, Rick is recommending the Professional Trainers at the Biddy, Intermediate and Senior levels.
ACTION ITEM: Rick Gengaro to e-mail detailed information on Professional Trainers option.
*Softball

*Softball Tournament
Janet Comerford reported from a relayed message from Kevin Chandlee that presently there are 6 teams. Looking for 2 more teams. Tournament scheduled for July 28th and 29th. Help is needed for concession stand.
*Sports Picnic
Joanne Cipperly reported that there was a good turnout for the sports picnic and all went well.

A date has been set for October 27 for the annual Halloween Parade. Line up time scheduled for 12:30. Parade to begin at 1:00 p.m.

OLD BUSINESS:
Joanne Cipperly reminded the members to visit the Recreation website and contact John Amicucci with updated information.
The next scheduled Recreation meeting on August 13 will include reviews and approvals for policies and procedures.
NEW BUSINESS:
Resignations from the following Recreation members have been received: Bill Strausser, Sue Dvorin, and Suzanne Esposito.
With the resignation of Treasurer, Sue Dvorin, a motion was made by John Gallagher to approve present Secretary, Janet Comerford as Treasurer. Motion seconded by Rick Gengaro. Approved unanimously.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
Next Recreation Meeting to be held on Monday, August 13th at 7:30 p.m., at the Township’s Municipal Building.
