GAME NOTES

·  BGHS vs Pulaski County: BGHS and Pulaski County have met in each of the last two seasons. In 2015, the Purples won the Class 5A State Championship with a 49-14 win over the Maroons. In 2014, BGHS travelled to Pulaski County and won 23-7 on the last date of the regular season. That game was played in very wet conditions and the Maroons were without the services of QB Riley Hall. Pulaski County went on to win the 2014 Class 5A State Championship with a 14-7 win over Graves County. Graves Co. eliminated BGHS with a 7-0 win in last year’s region final.

·  BGHS 21 Fern Creek 0: In the first meeting ever, BGHS captured its first shutout of the 2015 season. Several Purples came up with stellar defensive efforts. SR LB Andrew Spader led the Purples with 9 tackles, including two for losses. SR OLB Dane Drobocky had 4 tackles and two sacks. JR DE Dalan Cofer 7 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and a sack against the Tigers. SR CB’s Tre Fant and Justin Robinson each had an interception as the Purples won the turnover ratio 2-0.

·  Playoffs: BGHS is 72-26 (.732) all-time in playoff action and is 21-1 in their last 22 playoff games. The Purples will appear in their ninth championship game on Saturday. BGHS is 4-4 in title games. It will be their 7th finals appearance in the last 11 seasons. Previous championship appearances include:

·  BGHS Football: BGHS ranks 10th in all-time KHSAA wins. The Purples are now 627-331-35. BGHS is 68-3 (.958) in their past 71 games, 78-6 (.929) in this decade, and 184-32 (.852) since 2000. The Purples have amassed 47% of all of their wins since 1990, with a record of 297-49 (.858)… BGHS has won at least 10 games in the last five seasons. Since 1988, the Purples have had only four seasons in which they have not won at least 10 games…The 554 points scored in 2015 is the 6th highest total in school history. The 2011 state champs hold the school record with 738 points.

·  BGHS Seniors: This BGHS Senior class is currently 52-3 (.945) in their career and will appear in their third state championship game on Saturday. The game will be the last in purple and gold for 18 seniors.

·  State Finals-2 Sports: Deangelo Wilson, Jacob Yates, Dane Drobocky, Jamale Carothers and Justin Robinson all appeared in the 2015 Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Boys Sweet Sixteen Championship game, losing to Owensboro, 74-58. Those five players are all starters for BGHS football and will appear in their second state championship game in this calendar year.

·  Coach Wallace: BGHS Head Coach Kevin Wallace will appear in his 7th state championship game. That ties him for 10th on the KHSAA career list of title game appearances. Wallace was a BGHS assistant for the Purples championship games in 1994 and 1995. Wallace has moved into 15th place in career KHSAA football wins. Wallace is 273-99 (.734) in his career, including a 228-38 (.857) mark at BGHS. Wallace is now 56-15 (.789) in his career in the KHSAA playoffs and 3-3 in previous state championship games. Wallace and Dan Haley are the only two coaches at BGHS to win playoff games

·  Moving Up: JR QB Clark Payne has thrown for 2361 yards and 31 touchdowns. Those numbers represent the 4th highest total of yards and a tie for 3rd in single-seasonTD’s at BGHS. The top totals in both categories belong to Devin Hayes (’14) who threw for 3303 yards and 43 touchdowns in 2013... JR WR Deangleo Wilson has 871 yards and 15 receiving touchdowns. The single-season yardage ranks 5th and his 15 TD’s place him third in single-season TD’s… SR CB Tre Fant tied Demont Franklin and Brian Harpool with the most INT’s in a season (9) at BGHS. Fant’s 3 INT returns for TD’s are believed to be a school record. The 25 team interceptions are the most since 1996. No team interception records exist prior to 1996… JR RB Jamale Carothers now has 282 career points, moving past Brian Harpool and Lavance Anderson and into 7th on the career scoring list at BGHS. His 154 points in 2015 is the 5th highest single-season total at BGHS. Avery Hibbitt (’07) holds the single-season (206) and career (454) scoring records at BGHS. Carothers has 679 yards receiving, which is the 6th highest single-season total at BGHS and the most for any running back in Purples history. His 1276 yards rushing is the third highest single-season total at BGHS since 1996.

·  Purples in college: Four former Purples will be a part of the CUSA Championship at Houchens-Smith Stadium. Ryan Wallace (’08) is the TE coach, Joe Manley (’12) is a starting offensive guard, Nacarius Fant (’14) is a wide receiver/punt returner, and Ben Holt (’15) is a redshirt fullback. Those players combined for 10 state championship appearances while at BGHS.
