REVIEW GUIDELINES

Choose only ONE recommendation category based on how many stars you would give the book.

Five Stars should be used for those books that each library should include in the collection

Four Stars for books that are of good quality and deserve strong consideration

Three Stars for books that are worth purchasing if the budget permits

Two Stars for books with subject matter that some may find disturbing but where the treatment of that subject deserves consideration

One Star for books that are of poor quality or full of inaccuracies and should not be purchased by anyone

Five stars, Two Stars, and One Star should be used only aftercareful consideration. Be sure your evaluation includes reasons for your choice of recommendation.

Our reading audience includes the publishers as well as librarians, teachers, and authors. In your evaluation try to include specific praise and criticism for things such as the physical appearance of the book, format, content, language, style, illustrations, etc.

Write a separate review for each book or item. If students are reviewing books for you, please take the time to ensure there are no grammatical or spelling mistakes present. It is an infringement of copyright to use the CIP or other summaries that may appear in the book or in other sources.

If you have any questions please contact your group conveners or SWON Libraries. Reviews must be completed within the two months between meetings.
