The Child Safety program is an education and prevention program that teaches children safety tips when they are alone, during an attempted abduction or if they are being bullied. The program targets children, ages 5-17. The agency uses teachers from Hallandale Beach schools who are trained to facilitate the curriculum.

Broward Education Foundation proposes to provide two (2) graduating seniors with a 4 year/120 credit hour full tuition scholarship to a state college or university. The scholarship is made through the state of Florida’s Pre-Paid Scholarship program.______

GROUP COMMENTS:

Most students who qualify for this scholarship would also qualify for the Bright Futures Program. The Committee recommended______beginning with one (1) scholarship and evaluatethe effectiveness of the program during year one (1) of funding. The Committee also______recommends that the scholarship recipient complete an internship with the city, and forty (40 hours of community service work).Lastly,__ the Committee Recommendsorganization develop a better system of tracking recipient progress.______

In addition to a balance mix of proteins, carbohydrates and hydration delivered through nutrition bars, meals, snacks and sports drinks, the Foundation also provides nutrition education and training to student athletes.______

GROUP COMMENTS:

Feeds and mentors high school and PAL athletes in Hallandale. The committee agreed that the program is needed, if properly______administered, could prove to be quite beneficial to athletes. This program meets a need that is not being addressed by the school. The____ Committee recommended funding at $7,500, because this is a new program.______

Feeding South Florida proposes to provide backpacks filled with food, weighing 6 pounds and providing them every weekend through their School Backpack Program. The program was developed to alleviate childhood hunger by addressing the lack of food resources on weekends and holidays for children who, during the week have access to school breakfast and lunch but on weekends have little access to food. The agency serves 190 at-risk children at Hallandale Elementary school.______

GROUP COMMENTS:

The quality of some food items are in question as organization provides only processed foods. Committee is recommending $37,500 in___ funding. Organization asked for additional funding, however the service level projection was the same as 2012-2013.______

GROUP COMMENTS:

Project has worked well and needs are met in Hallandale Beach; vital to the city; the Committee believes the project serves the community with very little resources however there is a critical need for methods of accountability and evaluation. Also project lacks capacity to______manage grant administratively as clearly evidenced during the 2012-2013 funding year. Committee recommends funding at the $35,000__only if agency is able to secure a Fiscal Agent thatmeets the required IRS status and will administer the grant.______

Staff has been unable to secure IRS Status after researching on the IRS website as well as the agency which provided the IRS Letter. It is___ their understanding that as a church they are not required to File a 990 form, because they are not receiving any grant funding. Much needed program; program has shown correlation between tutoring and improved FCAT scores, and improvement in overall school grade; Committee recommends funding at $40,000. School requested an additional $10,000 which they stated during their presentation__ would be utilized for computer purchases; however this information was not reflected in the grant application.______
