Children’s Day
On Monday the 10th of August, Wallangarra State School celebrated Indigenous Children’s Day with special visitors from the PCYC. Jessie and Amber shared throwing skills with the students, including the keean and the woomera. The students were very engaged and showed improvement in their throwing technique. Pictured are just some of the students with Jessie and Amber.
Granite Belt Sports Day 1
Congratulations to the students who competed yesterday in the first day of events. Tomorrow is the last day. The canteen sold out of food yesterday so please be aware that there were only a couple of orders for lunch tomorrow so those families who did not order lunch will have to make sure they bring enough food or get to the canteen as soon as you can.

Granite Belt Sports Day 2 – Thursday 13 August - Prep to 6
Thursday 13 August is the main day of the Granite Belt Sports so all students from Prep to Year 6 will be involved in this day. All students will again have to have private transport to Stanthorpe on this day as there is no bus. Full school uniform is to be worn. This means maroon tracksuit top and bottom with polo underneath as well as the maroon shorts to compete in. The school will take the hats for the students. These days have known to be cold and windy sometimes. PLEASE BE AT CF WHITE OVAL NEAR THE HIGH SCHOOL AT 8AM FOR STUDENTS TO ASSEMBLE
Tomorrow the following events will occur:-
· 200 Metres
· Sprints
· Relays
· Tabloids
· 5 to 8 year olds will participate in a sprint event and in tabloid activities (which are games designed for younger students).
· 9 to 13 year olds will participate in a sprint event and have the option to compete in a 200 metre event.
· Relays will also be held at the end of the day.

Eisteddfod – Tenterfield – Sir Henry Parkes Memorial Hall – Week beginning 17 Aug
The students have been busily practising the songs/poems/recorder all week. The younger class has a nursery rhyme to rehearse so it would be appreciated if you could ask your child to practise in front of you. We have students participating in many sections over the week with the choirs on Friday 21 August. Set out below is the days some students will be participating in the eisteddfod.
Monday 17 August – Humorous Poem
Clare Saxby, Danny Blair, Harmony Wilson, Riley Atkinson, Kaleb Small, Mikayla Zournazidis, Corbin Birney. Some of these children will travel to Tenterfield with Mrs Lutter if parents are unable to assist. Students will leave the school at around 11am.

All these students will require private transport to Tenterfield. Please contact your class teacher if you can assist. If you can assist and can take more than one child please let the teacher know as well. Students will have to leave the school at 9.15am. If you do take transport you will need to provide your car rego/insurance and Driver’s Licence if you have not already done so.
Friday 21 August
A bus will take the students to Tenterfield which will leave at 9am sharp. If your child is late to school that day you will have to take his/her to Tenterfield. This day is for the recorder group and the choirs. Students will know by next week of they made it into these groups. For all performances at the eisteddfod full school uniform is to be worn which means: - No dirty, ripped, torn polo shirts or shorts. Joggers are to be worn with predominately white socks. There will be a practice at the community hall sometime this week. Students will walk to the hall with staff.
Books will be set up in the library at the beginning of the weeks of the 24 August. Children may browse and purchases can be made after school from 3.10pm onwards until 4.00pm. Correct money would be appreciated, or cheques made out to the school.
Book Week Theme
Children may come dressed as something from “under the sea” on Thursday 27 August. Prizes for the best dressed.
