Graduation Ceremony – A guide for the day

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

All graduands are required to be SUITABLY DRESSED (PLEASE NOTE NO JEANS, SHORTS OR FLIPFLOPS) including appropriate academic dress (cap, gown and hood). You will not be allowed to graduate without the correct academic dress.

COLLECT YOUR ACADEMIC DRESS AND COLLECT YOUR TICKETS / REGISTER ATTENDANCE
Report to the foyer of Brecon Building (B Block) to collect academic dress and collect your tickets / register your attendance. Please ensure that you collect your academic dress first and then register your attendance /collect your tickets as soon as possible after.
You will not be able to enter the Ceremony Hall without your tickets. / Graduands
Either before 8.40 am or after the Ceremony /
HAVE YOUR PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN
Photography is a drop in service in Brecon Building, therefore you are able to have your photograph taken before or after your Ceremony. The queue for photography will be monitored and will close at approximately 8.40am for graduands attending this ceremony. This allows all graduands to proceed to the Sports Hall in time to be seated for the Ceremony. / Graduands/

9:10 am / MAKE YOUR WAY TO THE SPORTS CENTRE
Graduands and guests report to the Ceremony Hall with their tickets.
·  Guests enter the hall and may sit anywhere within the areas set aside for guests.
·  Graduands must enter separately and have their tickets on hand to show a Marshal.
Graduand tickets will have a specific seat number on it, and you will be shown to your seat. Please ensure that you keep your ticket, and that your seat number corresponds with that on your ticket. DO NOT MOVE TO AN ADJOINING SEAT WHICH MAY BE UNOCCUPIED.
PLEASE NOTE: ALL GRADUANDS GUESTS ARRIVING AFTER
9:10am CAN ONLY BE ADMITTED AT THE DISCRETION OF THE CHIEF MARSHAL. PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU ARE ON TIME. / Graduands/

9:30 am / The Ceremony will commence at 9:30 am promptly.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE SPORTS CENTRE – GRADUANDS ONLY

1. On entering the Ceremony Hall you must show your ticket to a Marshal – you will not be permitted to enter the hall without your ticket.

2. You will be shown to your seat, and must remain there unless given permission to leave by a Marshal.

3. Prior to being presented, you will be directed towards the left-hand side of the stage by a Marshal.

4. When your name is called by the Presenter, you should go up the ramp and proceed across the stage to be greeted by the Chancellor or nominee with whom you will shake hands.

5. When you have left the stage from the ramp on the right-hand side of the stage you should remove your cap and place under your arm. Caps should not be put on again during the Ceremony.

6. On leaving the stage, you will be directed out of the hall to collect your certificate and return to your original seat.

7. You should remain seated in the hall until the end of the Ceremony. A Marshal will direct you from your seat to the exit in turn.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO MY GUESTS?

All guests are requested to be seated in the Ceremony Hall by 9:10am. Access to the Sports Centre will be available from 8:45am. Guests will access the main hall by a different door to graduands. Please note that guests arriving after 9:10am can be admitted only at the discretion of the Chief Marshal. Please ensure that you are on time.

WHAT ABOUT CAR PARKING?

Please note, whilst car parking is free there is limited car parking available in the main student car park on Llantwit Road. For those who have requested a disabled permit, this will be sent out to you by email. If you have not received your permit by Friday 9th December 2016, please contact the Assessment and Awards Office ().

WHAT ABOUT A PROGRAMME?

Complimentary programmes are available on the day. They will be available when you collect your tickets.

LATE ARRIVALS

If you are delayed and arrive between 9:00am and 9:10am, please collect your gown and report directly to the registration desk in B Block. If delayed beyond 9:40am please go directly to the Sports Centre, DO NOT COLLECT YOUR GOWN FIRST.

EARLY ARRIVALS

If you arrive on campus early there are many catering facilities available. ‘Crawshays’ will have refreshments available from 7:30am. ‘Stilts’ will be open from 8am. Please do not go to collect your tickets until the allotted time as they will not be available.
