Position Summary

As a professional level staff member in training, the Graduate Assistant shall have accountability for the Fitchburg State University Commuter Life Program along with assisting with the Fitchburg State University Greek Life System, and Club and Organization Management. This will include the execution of all commuter life projects, direct supervision of student staff members, development of new commuter opportunities for students, policy and procedure development of Greek Life Policy, and clubs and organizations with communications, trainings, and management.

Specific Duties

Management of the Fitchburg State Commuter Life Program and Commuter Lounge:

Coordinate and execute multiple projects and opportunities each month for Fitchburg State commuter students, faculty and staff

Directly supervise up to 4-5 student staff members

Coordinate all aspects of club & organization management including; training, development, event management, budget management, record keeping and overall resource support;

Support club and organization advisors by developing a comprehensive advisor training;

Support clubs and organizations with training and usage of OrgSync;

Support campus wide events that are offered by the Student Development Office;

Assist with Summer, Winter,and Fall Orientation;

Work with the Associate Director to create and implement Greek Life Policy and Procedure, including, but not limited to all FIPG Risk Management Policies, co-advise Greek Council, Panhellenic, IFC and possible NPHC.

Participate in a rotation with the professional staff, directly supervise the operations for evening and weekend programs as assigned (minimum 2 nights a week on average);

Work on special projects as assigned by the Associate Director and Assistant Dean.

RECIEVED:

  • Graduate assistants will be paid approximately $8,800.00 for the academic year beginning in August 2017 and ending no later than June 30, 2018 providing for an approximate biweekly stipend of $440.00 (if assistant is graduating in May 2018, their last day cannot be after Graduate Commencement).
  • Assistants will work for 20 hours a week for 40 weeks in order to earn the full stipend.
  • The appointment and award includes a tuition and fees waiver for 15 semester hours of graduate course work for the academic year of the appointment.
  • Position is contingent of applicant being accepted into the University’s Graduate Program.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Good written and verbal communication skills; strong customer service orientation; ability to interact well with the diverse segments of the Fitchburg State University community.
  2. The successful candidate will be a mature, responsible, independent thinker, who demonstrates flexibility and good problem solving skills.
  3. Preference will be given to candidates with previous Greek Life experience.
  4. Preference will be given to candidates with previous programming experience.
  5. Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience working with college age students.
  6. Understanding of the “Role of the College Union” is preferred.
