Topic: Converting Fractions to Percents and Percents to Fractions

Objectives (P.A.S.S.):

Standard 2: Number Sense-The students will use numbers and and number relationships to solve problems. 2. Convert, compare, and order decimals, fractions and percents using a variety of methods.

Introduction: During the introduction of the lesson, I wil ask the student what a fraction and a decimal number are. I will ask them to give me some examples. Then I will tell them the subject of today's lesson.

Instructional process: This lesson will be taught with the SmartBoard Presentation File named "Saxon Lesson 35". This is a lesson we teach in Saxon Math. I will go through the SmartBoard Presentation Slide by Slide and point out certain information I want the students to write in their daily math journal/notebook. There are several examples that we will do to review the concepts. When we have reviewed the concepts, we will do the lesson practice together. After each question, I usually ask my students if there is any one that did not understand the problem. They are very good about asking as soon as they have a question. I will continue doing all the practice problems together. When we completed all examples, the students will be given their assignment.

Closure: The closure will be done before the the assignment is given. The closure will consist of a quick look back of the most important slides. In this lesson, reminding the students that the decimal places indicate to us how many zeros we will have in the denominator when we convert to fractions, will be one of the major points.

Assessment: The informal assessment will be done during the lesson. It consists of making sure all students are understanding the content.

Modifications/Accommodations: My special needs students sit at the front of the room. What I do to make sure they are always with us during the lesson is point several different times to where they should be following. I also ask them questions that I know they can answer because if I don't I may get extreme anxiety issues. Having the presentation ready to go also lets me be facing the students more than I am the board. This helps my student that has hearing problems. If he can see my mouth he compensates for what he can not hear.

Reflection: The lesson went fairly well. I think I broke the sections just right because everything worked smoothly. I had several students ask if they could go back to certain slides they could remember. This is also possible because the SmartBoard is available and because the slides are different colors. Even my special needs students went through the lesson pretty smoothly. I will definitely use this lesson presentation again.
