Part C: Creating

Creating a mascot or logo Value 5%

With the program “Paint”, you will need to create an original mascot or logo to represent your company.

When you save your image, you must save it as a JPEG file for it to work properly in Word.

To insert a picture in Word:

1.  Open your Microsoft Word 2007 document.

2.  Click the spot in your Microsoft Word document where the picture should go.

3.  Click the "Insert" tab. Find the "Illustrations" group.

4.  Click the "Picture" button to open the "Insert Picture" dialog box.

5.  Navigate to the location of the picture you'd like to add. Click on the picture to select it. Click "Insert."

Your mascot/logo will be used in your business plan and in your promotional item.

In a Word document, you will now create your business plan. To do this, you must follow these guidelines.

1.  Title page (must include company name, partner names, address)

11. Conclusion (Was your business a success or a failure at the end of one year? How much money did you make / lose?)

Part E: Budget

Create a budget for one year Value 15%

You will need to create your budget with the help of an Excel spreadsheet. You will need to complete the following tables in 3 different spreadsheets. To do this, you must click on the bottom where it says sheet1, sheet2, sheet3. This will give you three separate sheets.

On your first Excel sheet, you will represent the cost of running the company (expenses). While you might not need all of the following, you might also need to add some items.

Item / Jan / Feb / Mar / Apr / May / June / July / Aug / Sept / Oct / Nov / Dec
Salary
Utilities
Rent
Office supplies
Insurance
Advertisement
Telephone
Traveling
Repairs
Cost of product (materials)
Cost of product (labor)

On your second Excel sheet, you will represent the gains of running the company (Net). While you might not need all of the following, you might also need to add some items.

Item / Jan / Feb / Mar / Apr / May / June / July / Aug / Sept / Oct / Nov / Dec
Sale of item (1, 2, 3)
Other revenue

On your third Excel sheet, you will represent the gains minus the cost of running the company. Gains – cost = profit. Your excel sheet should look exactly like this one:

Item / Jan / Feb / Mar / Apr / May / June / July / Aug / Sept / Oct / Nov / Dec
Gains in the month
Cost in the month
Profit for the month

Part F: Creating

Making the product Value 15%

You will now be creating a sample of your product. This will be presented during your presentation.

You will need to take pictures of yourself making / creating your product. These pictures will be inserted in your business plan. To do this, you will follow the following steps:

1.  Take the pictures with one of the school cameras.

2.  Plug the camera in the computer and follow the downloading instructions.

3.  Place the images in Word, just as you did for your logo/mascot (see part C).

4.  Delete your pictures from the school camera.

Part G: Promotion

Promotional item Value 15%

Before you buy a product or service, you have often seen advertisement about it. You will create a promotional item that will be going with your product or service. Please remember your clientele: if your product/service is aimed towards kids or adults, your item will change.

Certain ideas that you can use are:

- A toy (you will need to create one out of clay, paper, etc.)

- A coupon (for something to buy, somewhere to go, etc.) - This would be

drawn poster-sized on 8.5x11 inch paper for display purposes. Coloring is

required.

- A radio commercial lasting 30 seconds (a script must be handed in with the commercial)

- A television commercial lasting 30 seconds (a script must be handed in

with the commercial)

- A magazine ad. This will be drawn on either 8.5x11 or 8.5 x 14 inch

paper. Coloring is required.

- Other? (Come and see me with your ideas)

Part H: Presentation

Presentation of your product Value 10%

With the help of your business plan in “Word”, your product or a demonstration of your service, and your promotional item, you will present your business to the class. Your presentation will last approximately 3 to 4 minutes.

You need to have a rough copy of the presentation, in point form, in your duotang.

Your presentation will include:

·  A detailed explanation of the business plan. All items must be

pointed out. Again, use the checklist! Be lively and original.

·  The explanation and showing of your promotional item.

Overall considerations:

1. Originality

2. Use of color

3. Neatness of work
