Membership Guidelines
GVA seeks to build a stronger, local community by supporting and developing existing voluntary and community groups and individuals; and helping new projects to get started. It also promotes partnership working between the voluntary, private and public sectors.
GVA believes in ensuring equality of opportunity and recognizing the value of diversity in all its activities.
Full Membership
1. Membership is open to voluntary and community groups and individuals serving the residents of Gosport Borough, which share GVA’s aims and values.
2. Membership is FREE.
3. Membership entitles an organisation to vote at the AGM and nominate people for election to the Board of Trustees.
4. Members have a limited liability of £1 (One Pound) in the event of GVA ceasing to operate.
5. Membership entitles an organisation to book GVA buses for their use at concessionary rates.
6. Membership entitles an organisation to access publications and services provided by GVA. Members will receive a copy of GVA’s Quarterly Newsletter and E-Bulletin. They are also able to ask the Communications’ Co-ordinator to include articles about their organisation, when necessary. Enclosure of leaflets/fliers will be charged at cost price plus a small amount for administration.
7. Members have the right to ask for advice and information from GVA’s Development Team e.g. volunteering issues, constitution, fund-raising and management committee issues.
8. Members have the right to attend quarterly networking lunches at Martin Snape House.
9. Members are entitled to use the facilities and resources GVA provides, for which a small charge may be levied. These include:-
· Photocopier
· Training & Meeting Room at Martin Snape House, Nimrod Centre and Nobes Hall.
· Laptops
· Projector
· Laminator
· Portable Screen for use with projector
· Flip-Chart stands
· Canopy for market stall
· Gazebo
· Braille machine
10. Members have the right to participate in any consultation exercise run by GVA.
11. Members will be represented at local, county and regional level by GVA and where appropriate the Hampshire CVS Network.
Associate Membership
12. Associate Membership is open to statutory organisations.
13. Membership is free.
14. Being an Associate Member entitles your organization to a quarterly GVA newsletter and e-bulletin. Inserts in the newsletter and mailshots will be charged at cost price plus a small amount for administration.
15. GVA Meeting Rooms and buses can also be hired by associate members.
16. Information about Associate Members can be included in GVA’s directory and on its website.
17. Associate Members are not able to vote at the AGM.
General
18. It is expected that members will play a part in the running of GVA, attend the AGM and keep its staff informed of issues affecting the voluntary sector locally.
19. GVA reserves the right to reject an application for membership if the Board of Trustees are not convinced that the organisation’s aims and objectives are consistent with those of GVA.
20. GVA reserves the right not to renew membership of a group if circumstances change and the group no longer fulfills the criteria on which original membership was granted.
In the event of 19 and 20 occurring, Gosport Voluntary Action will inform the applicant of the reasons for its decision.
