Gospel Teaching and Leadership

"Donut forget that the circle of your influence in Primary will go on forever" (Tied to a donut)- Be a Good Example-During His mortal ministry, the Savior taught by word and example. Class members learn from teacher’s actions as well as their words. Each teacher should strive to be a good example by living the principles of the gospel.

Be a “smartie”, pray often about your calling. Just as the Savior was prayerful during His mortal ministry, teachers should be continually prayerful.

Loaf of Bread - For being there when you were "Kneaded", for "Rising" to the occasion, large or small. For never "Loafing" on the job, for helping others to "Heel" with TLC. No matter how you "Slice it", you do a terrific job being our primary teacher. Primary teachers minister to individual children in the class, loving them, teaching them the gospel, and bearing testimony of gospel truths by word and example. They remain with the children during the entire Primary time. They make a continued effort to help every child attend and participate in Primary. They complete the Teaching the Gospel course. They also attend ward Primary leadership meetings and teacher improvement meetings. They attend Primary activity days and assist as needed.

Mints – Thanks for your commit “mint” to our primary children. Be Dedicated- Jesus was totally dedicated to doing His Father’s work. Teachers should have the same commitment in fulfilling their responsibilities. They should be willing to make sacrifices to do what is necessary to teach the gospel effectively.

Popcorn is a kernel that magnified its calling! Use these ideas to magnify your primary lessons. Use a variety of Teaching Methods: Use stories, use object lessons, use church-produced audiovisual materials, use music, use activities.

Please “chews” to be prepared-study your lesson in advance! Prepare to Teach: Jesus taught the importance of preparing to teach the gospel when He said, “seek not to declare my word, but first seek to obtain my word.” An important part of preparation is determining what lesson material would be most beneficial to teach. It is usually best to focus on one or two main principles. Another important part of preparation is determining how to teach the lesson material.

We think you are "Mighty and Marvelous”, but love that you can be humble too! Teachers should follow the Savior’s example of humility…Being humble can help teachers overcome any inclination to seek attention for themselves or rely too much on their own knowledge or talents. Teachers manifest this humility by applying the counsel in Proverbs 3:5-6; “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”

Primary without the Spirit to guide us would be unbearable! Teach by the Spirit: The Lord said, ‘The Spirit shall be given unto you by the prayer of faith; and if ye receive not the Spirit ye shall not teach” (D&C 42:14) Only through the influence of the Spirit can gospel teaching be edifying and inspiring.
