JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Safety Instructor Department: Business and Industry Services
Supervisor: Asst. Superintendent of BIS Personnel
Classification: Non-Certified Adult
Programs Personnel
Job Summary: Plan, organize, schedule and teach safety classes to fit the needs of business and industry. Develop relationships with business and industry to meet their safety training needs. Regular attendance is expected.
Essential Processes:
1. Teach safety classes, workshops and customized training.
2. Plan, organize and schedule classes to meet the needs of business and industry.
3. Establish relationships with area business and industry to determine safety training needs.
4. Prepare to work some flex time (evenings) to teach safety classes to meet shift schedules.
5. Keep informed about new safety and health regulations.
6. Work cooperatively with other Gordon Cooper Technology Center staff to serve business and industry.
7. Maintain records and reports as required by state agencies, the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education, and the local administration related to safety and health training.
8. Assist in other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent or board of education.
Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum of three years’ experience working with business organizations in preventative safety, providing safety training, working with fire safety, industrial hygiene, or OSHA compliance.
Initiative: Must be able to meet people, establish a quick rapport and develop professional relationships with employers, trainers, consultants and economic development professionals.
Physical & Mental
Requirements: Strength – Light walking and sitting required. Some lifting and carrying of training materials required. Other physical demands – talking, hearing.
Must be able to maintain calm, logical behavior under pressure and in stressful situations.
Must be able to effectively deal with people and differing personality types.
Must be able to work with people to accomplish organizational goals.
Must have good problem solving skills.
Must be able to build quick rapport with business organizations and clients.
