Good morning Mayoans:

My name is AC Nibbler, but you can call me AC for short. I’m a bunny rabbit who lives at Mayo. I’ve always tried to remain hidden, but many years ago someone spotted me hiding in the air conditioning vents. That’s how I got my name. AC is short for air conditioning. I guess they thought that since I was a rabbit my last name should be Nibbler. It’s an OK name. But if I could pick my own name it would probably be something like George…or Henry….or Albert.

Anyway, I live in the vents most of the day. But when the building is empty I like to hop around the building making my own little bunny trail. Throughout the week I see a lot of things that happen at Mayo. Every once in a while, I peek into your classrooms or I sit back a few feet in the vent and just listen. That’s how I know what’s going on. On Thursday nights, while you are all snuggled in bed, I stretch out my tiny bunny paws, hook up my tiny bunny computer and write a letter. It’s sort of like the way I’ve seen some of you journaling in class. Raise your hand if you ever write in a journal in class. SEE—I REALLY DO WATCH YOU.

I deliver it to that mailbox early Friday morning. (Did anyone ever consider helpin’ a bunny out? That’s a pretty tall mailbox for a tiny bunny.)

One of the first things I noticed this year is that there sure are a lot of new Mayo students this year. If this is your very first year at Mayo, please stand up so I can see your faces clearly. I’ll be watching celebrations this morning, so look up at one of the AC vents and smile real pretty for me.

I’ve noticed that all of you seem to have really fit in very well. I am amazed at how many new friendships I’ve seen this year. If you’ve made a new friend this year, you should pat yourself on the back.

I also noticed that there are a lot of new staff members at Mayo this year. I love how Mrs. Deardorff and Mrs. Rockholt have worked so hard to help other teachers. They sure know how to use the lifeskill of collaboration and cooperation. It looks like there are three new teachers in the Goodalll area--Ms. Cody, Mrs. Hernandez and Ms. Kramer. I noticed all of them working long hours before the school year began. They must have learned about the lifeskills of effort and perseverance long before they came to Mayo.

Ms. Starck and Mrs. Bond are two new teachers in the Einstein area. Every single day I see these new teachers use the Lifeskill of caring when dealing with the Einsteins, it fills my bunny heart with pride.

Mrs. Molina is new to the Armstrong area. She has helped out so much in the Armstrong area to make it a new and exciting place for Armstrongs to learn. She sure has used the Lifeskills of cooperation and flexibility as she learns the Mayo Way of doing things.

Well, I guess that’s all I have to say today. I know it’s a long weekend for all of you and I hope you have a good Labor Day. I’ll miss you this weekend, but I’ll see ya next week.
