An exciting opportunity is available for an energetic small animal veterinarian to work on the tropical island of Palau in the western Pacific. An easy-going personality and the ability to work well with the local Palauan support team will be highly regarded. The successful applicant will be the only veterinarian doing clinical work in Palau. Koror State supports a multi-faceted program for the community that is run by the veterinarian. This rigorous program encompasses small animal medical care, animal shelter management, and managing a dog trapping and euthanasia/spay/neuter program. Additional duties include running large spay/neuter clinics and a community and public education program, periodic assistance to the national government with animal health issues, continued education and training of Palauan staff, and increasing the health and well being of animals so as to diminish disease and health hazards in dogs and other animals, and as vectors to humans. Key responsibilities include supervising ~10 staff in trapping, routine kennel & clinic activities and laboratory testing, being on call for emergencies 24/7, and maintaining drug logs. As the only veterinarian doing clinical work in Palau, occasional demands for exotic wildlife, farm and large animal care, are required. Opportunity to travel and attend Pacific area veterinary-related seminars is likely.
