GMP’S

WELCOME

The U.S. Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act provide minimum standards for the food processing industry regarding employee personal grooming, appearance, and work habits. In addition, it provides the facility minimum standards for equipment, sanitation, and processing of food. These standards are referred to as Good Manufacturing Practices. Adherence to these practices is closely monitored through regulatory compliance inspections and inspections by our customers. GMP compliance is essential to assure the safe and wholesome production of food products. It is policy of FARO Inc. to adhere to all food laws and regulations that apply to the manufacture, distribution and sale of our products.

It is the primary obligation of all persons who are present in a food processing area to follow these standards whether or not they are engaged in the actual processing operations.

This brochure outlines the GMP Standards for FARO Inc. Every employee must understand their role in complying with these standards. Each facility may have additional requirements that are unique to their location. Please use this brochure as a reference of the GMP standards.

GMP Good Manufacturing Practices

Jewelry and Cosmetics

  • Excessive scents shall not be worn.
  • Loose articles are not to be stored behind ears.
  • Emergency medical tags shall be worn on a necklace that is tucked inside the shirt, these should be metal detectable.
  • When earplugs are required to be worn, they shall be company issued, metal detectable and connected with a cord.

Personal habits

  • Employees shall maintain a high degree of personal cleanliness.
  • Avoid use of hands for unsanitary practices, such as scratching the head or face, placing fingers in or about the ear, nose or mouth.
  • Employees shall wash their hands to prevent contamination after each absence from their workstation and at any time the hands have become soiled or contaminated.
  • Fingernails shall be kept clean and neatly trimmed.
  • If gloves are used in food handling, they shall be maintained in an intact, clean and sanitary condition. Gloves shall be properly stored, cleaned and/or changed between uses.
  • Smoking and the use of tobacco are permitted only in designated areas.
  • Eating, drinking or chewing gum is permitted only in designated areas. Tasting product in the production area is not permitted.
  • Spitting in the facility is not permitted.
  • No person with a communicable disease or affected with boils, sores, or infected wounds shall work in a food area in any capacity where there is a possibility of foods, ingredients, or packaging material becoming contaminated. It is the employee’s responsibility to report any of the above conditions. An employee shall present medical clearance to Human resources as a condition to return to work when required.
  • Use only company issued; metal detectable Band-Aids or bandages to cover exposed cuts or grazes on skin when working in a food area.
  • Cell phones, jackets, purses, etc are allowed in production areas at Supervisor’s discretion.

Work Habits

  • All exterior doors shall be kept closed.
  • Waste and refuse shall be disposed of in containers marked for that purpose.
  • Sitting, standing or walking on cases, pallets, ingredients or equipment is not permitted.
  • Glass is not permitted in the processing areas; Glass is permitted in the packaging area when it is the finished retail product container.
  • Do not use dirty or broken pallets. Have forklift drivers remove them from production areas for cleaning or repairs.
  • All items with lids shall have their covers in place when not in use.
  • Never place ingredients or finished products on the floor. Food, ingredients and packaging materials shall be adequately stored and/or covered in order to prevent contamination.
  • Do not taste ingredients or products in the production area.
  • The work place shall be maintained in a clean and orderly fashion. Spills shall be cleaned promptly. Spillage, splashing and dusting of ingredients and products should be kept to a minimum.
  • Clean equipment parts or utensils shall be properly stored in order to prevent cross contamination.
  • Hose heads or nozzles shall be kept off the floor.
  • Protection shall be taken when cleaning with water hoses during production to prevent overspray.
  • Chemicals and lubricants shall be properly stored when not in use.
  • Knives shall be company issued, cleaned, and stored properly.
  • Pens shall be company issued and stored properly.

Clothing

  • Employees are required to wear clean clothing. Clean clothing shall be worn at all times. If during production the employee’s uniform becomes heavily soiled they shall change to a clean uniform.
  • When company-issued uniforms are not available, clean outer garments shall be worn. Some facilities may provide disposable jackets or aprons to be worn over clean garments.
  • Loose, torn or soiled garments/ uniforms shall not be worn.
  • Shirts shall be kept entirely closed except for the top two snaps.
  • Shoes shall be closed toe and heal and shall not be of an open weave type.
