I would like to welcome you all to the 2005 British Universities Football and Hockey Home Nations Championship. We return to The University of Edinburgh, the home of the 2003 British University Games, and to the excellent sports facilities at Peffermill.

Congratulations to all the squad members on your selection and I hope you all enjoy the competition. This event would not be possible without a dedicated number of staff, officials and volunteers. Thanks to you all for your efforts in organising what I'm sure will be a successful competition. Thanksmust also go toJim Aitken and his staff atThe University of Edinburgh for their hard work in hosting the event.

Once again I wish everyone involved a very successful Championship.

Phil Attwell,

BUSA Chairman

This is our largest Home Nations event this year and as such requires support from numerous volunteers. BUSA is indebted to Dave Williams and Evlyn Raistrick for their efforts as Tournament Directors, as well as to all the medical staff, officials and volunteers.

BUSA would like to express its gratitude to Jim Aitken, Oliver Barsby and Graham Shaw from The University of Edinburgh for all their work in hosting these tournaments.

BUSA Sport Programme Managers

The University of Edinburgh’s Peffermill Playing Fields are situated one mile from Pollock Halls of Residence. This magnificent 27-acre venue offers some of the finest natural grass football pitches in the region, and its unsurpassed hockey facilities are home to the National Hockey Academy.

Football

Four high quality grass pitches will be used to host the football programme on a rotational basis. Further pitches will be available for training – Team Managers should contact BUSA HQ to make a booking.

Hockey

Peffermill has two water-based Astroturf pitches, located adjacent to the Laurie Liddell Clubhouse. These will form the venue for the Men’s and Women’s Hockey Tournaments. There will also be some warm-up and practice facilities available when the Allsport Astro is not in use. Team Managers should contact BUSA HQ to book these facilities. The one-hundred-metre tartan training track which separates the two Astro pitches is also available for warm up and warm down, on an ad hoc basis. Please note that only appropriate footwear should be worn on the Astroturf pitches, i.e. no studs, blades or moulded soles.

Changing Facilities

Hockey and Football teams will be allocated changing/shower rooms in the Laurie Liddell Clubhouse. Details will be available on the plasma screen in reception, and teams will retain the same dressing room for the duration of the tournament. The two football teams playing on the show pitch each day will be allocated changing facilities in the East Pavilion for that day. Teams intending to visit Peffermill for training should come ready changed into training kit, as changing facilities cannot be guaranteed.

Medical

A dedicated physiotherapy service will be available in the Laurie Liddell Clubhouse. Ice is available on request at both the Laurie Liddell Clubhouse and the East Pavilion.

Meeting Rooms

There are three meeting rooms available for teams to use. These are located on the first floor of the Laurie Liddell Clubhouse and can be booked through BUSA HQ by Team Managers. These rooms are ‘dry’ and ‘clean’ areas, and only clean clothing and footwear should be worn within them.

BUSA Support

BUSA will maintain an office at Peffermill to support the football and hockey tournaments. This is situated in team room five on the first floor of the Laurie Liddell Clubhouse. Tournament notice-boards will be maintained at Peffermill and Pollock Halls, and a daily news-sheet will be available at Breakfast.

Transport

The coach park in Peffermill’s main car park will serve as pick up and drop off point for the Tournament bus service. Free on-site parking and cycle-racks are also available.

Kit Storage

Limited storage is available in the Laurie Liddell Clubhouse for large items, such as hockey goalkeepers’ kit. Please note that kit is stored entirely at the owner’s risk.

Peffermill has excellent spectator facilities from the grandstand – particularly looking over the Astroturf pitches. This will provide the perfect gathering place for spectator teams and supporters to soak up the Hockey Tournament.
