GENERAL
Lincolnshire Battalion ACF will conduct a DofE Assessors accreditation course, Silver Canoeing training, Gold Walking DofE training weekend at Beckingham Cadet Training Centre over the period of 17 – 19 Feb 2012.
AIM
The aim of this weekend is for both the cadets and adults to get together in order to start preparations for the Silver Canoeing and Gold DofE expeditions due to take place later in the year. The cadets will work together in 3 groups of 7 for Gold and 2 groups of 8 for Silver Canoeing. Each group will plan and prepare their routes and will also carry out the standard training framework as laid down by the DofE programme.
The Expeditions Assessors Accreditation Course (EAAS) will be run by Lt Col R’td Sandham and Major Dixon. See separate admin instruction.
EXECUTION
Over the weekend of 17 – 19 February 2012, there will be three DofE activities running:

2Silver DofE Canoeing Expedition Training weekend
3DofE Assessors Accreditation Course (EAAS)
On arrival at Beckingham the cadets will be given a brief outline of the weekend and will receive an introduction to the other sections of the award and how they can complete it. The Saturday will be broken down into several different areas of the training framework including kit and equipment, first aid, menu planning, team building exercises. Route planning will commence on Saturday after

DRESS
All cadets and staff are to attend in CS95, civilian clothing for the evening is required. Cadets involved in the Silver Canoeing Expedition Training are to ensure that they bring sufficient clothing for the Saturday afternoon as they will be carrying out some training on the water. They are likely to get wet so ensure they bring sufficient clothing and swimwear and if own is held a wet/dry suit.
ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation is required for all cadets and adults who are involved with the Gold & Silver DofE.
TRANSPORT
All cadets and adults are to make their own way to Beckingham Training camp, please share lifts where possible. Each Coy/Sqn is responsible for transporting their cadets to camp and that they do attend.
TIMINGS
Cadets and Adults attending the Gold & Silver DofE training are to arrive at Beckingham CTC on Friday evening 17 February by 2030hrs, departure from Beckingham on Sunday 19 February after handing back the accommodation will be circa 1400hrs. A full programme of events is at Annex B.
MESSING
All cadets are to bring with them £10.00 to cover the cost of the weekend, this will include all meals and Tea, coffee and biscuits throughout the day. The first meal will be breakfast on Saturday am and final meal at lunchtime on Sunday. Should anyone who is booked on the weekend and doesn’t arrive then a bill will be sent to Coy/Sqn OC’s.
FIRST AID
First aider for the weekend isSSI Barnes & SI Marriott.
The nearest hospitals are Newark, Boundary Road, (01636) 681681, Grantham Hospital, Manthorpe Road, (01476) 565232 or Lincoln County Hospital, Greetwell Road Lincoln, LN2 5QY (01522 512512).
CONSENT AND MEDICAL DECLARATION PRO-FORMA
The attached consent and medical declaration form (Annex C) must be filled in by all cadets attending, signed and presented to Lt Col Clark on arrival at the start location. Any cadet that turns up without a signed form will not be allowed to take part in the weekend.
All cadets taking part in the canoeing training must be able to swim a minimum of 50m.
SECURITY AND FIRE
A security and fire brief will be given on arrival at Beckingham. All adults must produce ID on arriving at Beckingham Training camp.
DISCIPLINE
All Cadets are reminded that high standards of behaviour are expected on the weekend. Serious or repeated breached of discipline will result in the individual being sent home. A full report would be sent to HQ.
RISK ASSESSMENT
A full Risk Assessment is attached to this admin instruction, any additional hazards and control measures are to be added and passed to the TSA after the weekend. All adults are to sign the Risk Assessment at the start of the weekend. Risk Assessment attached at Annex D.
STORES & EQUIPMENT
All cadets and adults must bring with them any personal equipment required for the weekend. All cadets taking part must bring a notebook, pens, pencils and a compass in order to complete the route card. Do not forget your compass, you will need to ask your DC for one prior to attending. Cadets doing the Canoeing training must bring a towel with them as you will get wet.
AUO Robb will source and bring to the weekend the necessary equipment for the canoeing training, this will be sourced by 13CTT.
FEEDING
All cadets and adults which are booked onto Silver & Gold DofE training are booked in for meals in the cookhouse. SMI Brammer and SSI Barnes who are both training on Saturday for the EAAS are also booked in for meals as they are remaining in camp for the whole weekend.

INHALERS
- If your child uses an inhaler or similar device for asthma or hay-fever, please send him/her to camp with a full canister.
- Please send a spare inhaler to camp in a sealed envelope or bag marked clearly with NAME, DETACHMENT &
COMPANY/SQUADRON. This spare should be handed in at camp; it will be kept in the medical centre until needed or returned to the cadet at the end of camp.
ACF regulations state that: Cadets who suffer with epilepsy may not undertake rock climbing, swimming, firing weapons, canoeing, orienteering or wild country expeditions. Cadets who suffer with asthma may not undertake activities involving strenuous exertion (there are additional restrictions for adventure training). Cadets who suffer with diabetes may not undertake activities involving irregular meals or prolonged exertion. Cadets who suffer with certain heart conditions may have their activities restricted on an individual basis.
INDEMNITY CERTIFICATE
My child has my permission to take part in all strenuous and adventurous activities within the Army Cadet Force except for those listed below, provided that he/she is correctly supervised by qualified instructors as part of normal activities. Cadets may take part in such activities as mountaineering, rock climbing, canoeing, fitness training, assault course training, all sports, drill, weapon training, abseiling and flying in both fixed and rotary winged aircraft.
