GOAN ASSOCIATION OF NEW YORK
______
Dear Members of the Association and Friends:
It’s that time again when autumn leaves have fallen and winter starts to strengthen its grip over the land. Just like the seasons renew mother earth, every two years there is the changing of the guard, and so for the next two years I will be humbly presiding over the affairs of this great association. I sincerely hope my past experience as a member and as Vice-President and with the continual support from the new members, as well as previous committee and sub-committee members, and with your active participation, the coming two years will continue to be stellar ones.
As I mentioned during the celebration at St. Francis Xavier Feast on December 4, 2011, my immediate committee comprises of individuals who already have dedicated long hours of service in the activities to the association. I am looking forward for similar enthusiasm and participation by other members and request them to bring their novel ideas of events to the table. My committee and I will give serious consideration for such new ideas which we hope would raise the beat during this year’s functions. Let’s look back at the last year’s events:
The Spring Ball at the World Fair Marina: There was impressive turnout. The women with their sparkling attires ensured that the dance floor was never devoid of energetic men. There were movers and shakers throughout the event. The music provided by Pulse Productions was outstanding as they continuously played medleys of hits. And our compere, Ralph as always did a fabulous job.
The Memorial Day Camp It was the ritual tradition and a getaway from the normal hustle and bustle of the city to embrace nature and explore camaraderie in a tranquil setting.
Annual Picnic: The inclement weather did not dampen the spirits rather it confined everyone to the pavilion resulting in greater participation in the games and in dancing to the DJ music, courteously provided by Evette Pinto. The food, though limited in varieties was abundant, and as always, the hallmark of the occasion. Everett and Michele organized all the indoor games and everyone had great fun.
The Feast of St Francis Xavier: Every December, the celebration of the life of Goa’s patron Saint culminates fun filled event for Children as well for the grown-ups. While our Santa greeted and gave away the Christmas presents to the children, DJ Brian entertained the young and the old with his fine brand of music and creative prize events. This year, Eric Pinto and Mario De Corla Souza were justifiably honored for their long dedicated service to the association. Last but not the least, the food table was the creation of Chad who made sure Goan culinary delights were in abundance for all to savor, from fine appetizers to the traditional Sorpatel and Leitao.
We look forward to your continuous support and participation in our imminent upcoming events.
Please save the following dates for our four main events in 2012
Goan Carnival Ball: April 13
Memorial Day Camp: May 26-28
Summer Picnic: August 12
St Francis Xavier Feast: December 2
Giving back to the community is one of the greatest joy we had while I was in the committee. During the Feast, we had the “Christmas Toy Drive” which benefitted the Catholic Charities of New York. We will continue to have charitable drives in the upcoming year and look forward to your continued support and generosity.
I strongly urge all to participate in our activities and render your support to the extent possible. We are always open to new ideas and welcome participation in the organizing committees. On Behalf of the Committee and Sub-Committee May this New Year be a Happy, Prosperous and Healthy one to all!
Looking forward to serving in the Association for the next two years.
Sincerely
Wilma Pinto
President
